Guests think my save the dates are my invitations!!

Guests think my save the dates are my invitations!!

We sent our save the dates out this weekend and I guess we put too much info on them because people are aksing if this is the invitation (someone even asked my mom if she was suppossed to respond to it! ).I don't get it...doesn't anyone get what these are? I mean we actually wrote 'Please 'save the date' to join us in our celebration'. Then we put the date and location. We also put hotel info and a map becuase our wedding is in the middle of July on Long Island on a Saturday--hello crowded!!--and wanted guests (we have about 100 out of town) to reserve early. I feel a little foolish like we should have written 'invitations to follow' at the bottom or something. Actually its kind of funny to think about people thinking these are our invites cause all they are are an index card size peice of card stock and hotel info on some printer paper!!! They must think we are really cheap! Anyone else have this mistaken invite happen to them?

Dont worry about it.

I DID have the phrase 'Invitations to follow' on my STD and people still though they were the invitations. They will get the picture when you send them the actual invite.

I think people sometimes get confused when you do some 'new stuff'. I didn't do save the dates but I have a funny story. Our friend sent us a wedding planning newsletter. Regular white piece of paper with a typed letter from the couple. DH reads it and say this is what they send as an invitation..how cheap is that?

I had the same prob! I guess they didn't read where it said ....
INVITATION TO FOLLOW!

My SIL was like ... you didn't enclose a response card, so I guess you know we're coming.

Honestly, I think this is such a new thing, that some people just don't understand the concept.

We wrote 'formal invitation to follow' on our STDs, and it makes no difference to some people I was actually showing it to people in our families recently, mind you I am standing right there telling them, here is a draft of our save the date card, and they actually asked me, 'is this your invitation?' HELLO??!!?? I told FH if they were not family they would have been cut from the guest for stupidity

We are sending out our save the dates this weekend and I am sure that even with Invitation to follow some people are not going to understand.

When we sent ours people called to say thanks as well. I think people who are not used to STD think that way...we even had written below the date...Invites to follow. Hey they learn something new. My huby did not know what STDs were either

LOL Liz, thats hilarious.
I can understand getting them in the mail and being confused...but I was standing there and had just explained what they were. It was like I handed them an apple, told them it was an apple, and then they turned to me and asked 'is this an orange?' I just looked at FH, he was hysterical. I dont know why he was laughing though, he didnt know what they were at first either

How funny!!!

STD'S are somewhat of a new thing, so people might not get it.

I actually never heard of STD cards until I came to this site. I have also gone to many weddings and never received one. Your guests probably have never seen this done before.

ok, I'm laughing out loud over here!

We sent our STDs out 1.5 years early b/c we have a lot of friends who are medical residents and needed to put in for the vaca time a year ahead. Plus, we're getting married on the 4th of July, so we figured advance notice would be good for all. I had a couple of friends come up to me last spring and say, 'ummm... I didn't get your invitation yet' So we had to explain that it was for 2003. I also had a friend who thought that was the invitation for 7/4/02.

It's a good thing we didn't include hall information! We just had the town and state!

Same here!

And I did write 'INVITATION AND DETAILS TO FOLLOW' ... I guess that people did not expect such formality

Thanks for the warning - we're sending ours out next month so I'll expect some confusion! :) EVERYBODY I've mentioned STDs to had no clue what they were (me neither till I started planning). Just glad to hear my peeps aren't the only ones who don't know about them tho - & mines do say 'Invitation to Follow' so we'll see!
