hmmm, I don't know your style, but I am assuming if you likes it itwas a good style for you.
For that neighborhood, that does seem a bit steep for the property size & style of house. It is the type of house that it will take you a while to make your money back. In such a high demand neighborhood, it is better to buy the worst house in the block & put a little work into it...usually the value is raised higher than the $$ it cost to update.
Just something to think about. I know it is frustrating, but keep the faith that the right house is out there for you.

i have to agree i dont think the size of the house match the price. remember things happen for a reason and this wasnt meant to be your house.

If you can afford a house at that price range... there will be other houses out there for you.

Does it have a living room and den? Are the rooms small? Is there a finished basement?
I don't know. The house looks too good to be true. Great price for it too. Something has got to be wrong with it.

It looked like a nice house but a little small for the price. I would keep your hopes up. I am sure you will find something else that is as good a deal as that or maybe even better.
What other areas are you looking at?

Sorry... it does look like a nice house, but I'm not familiar with prices in that area, so can't comment on the value. I've been through it a few times and know how upsetting the whole process can be.
Would you consider paying more than you already offered? If it's worth more to you, you could always make a last-ditch offer for an amount far enough above the asking price that the sellers would have no choice but to pay attention. You could write a brief personal note to accompany it as well. No guarantee that it will change anything, but you would know that you gave it your all. That's actually exactly how we wound up with the house on which we're now in contract. We lost out in a 'best and final' situation to another buyer, but after we realized how upset we were after losing it, we came back with an even bigger offer that I guess they couldn't refuse.
PS - I agree that something else WILL come up! We looked for years before finding the right house.

It has den and a formal living & dining room...
the upstairs has 2 big bedrooms but the third bedroom was downstairs off the dining room and it was very small.
the basement was unfinished but 'ready to go'.

I am so sorry that you lost the house. I know it is EXTREMLY frustrating and annoying. Even though we DID get the first house we bid on, I went into the whole house hunting/bidding game w/ a mindset that we would NEVER get the first house we bid on. It is not uncommon (especially in this market) to bid on 2 or 3 homes before getting the ONE.
Be patient and keep an open mind. YOUR house is out there, it is just a matter of timing.
ETA: w/ the summer approaching it would be nice to have CAC. this house does not.

I'm sorry. I know how you feel because we lost a few houses too. One that I really loved. You just have to keep looking and something else will come up.
Next time you love something don't hesitate and make a solid offer. Not saying that you dodn't this time, but if you like something you have to be ready to jump at that moment. This was my experience.
Good Luck

I agree with everyone that it is a lot of $ for a house that size. It's easy to add fancy appliances and cabinets (which seemed to be their selling point), so look beyond that. It sounds like the layout wasn't perfect if one bedroom ran off the dining room....
I know everyone keeps saying that you will find something else - and you will. Stop beating yourself up over this house and move on. We lost a house we had almost gone to contract on and I was devastated. Then we lost out on three subsequent houses that we put offers on. Finally, (two days ago) we found a great house. It's the style and location, has the features we always wanted, and we agreed a great price - but it does need a LOAD of work!
That house seemed perfect, but there is something even better for you - especially if you can afford that price-range

Well...the inside is nice but it is a small house for over half million dollars!! You can find a better/bigger house for that $$ Plus the neighbors house looks like its really close to the house - and those shingles...you'd have the paint them all the time to keep them looking like new.

You'll find something else. If you're spending that much $ there will be more and better out there! And the living room and den looked small, I'd rather have one of them and have it be twice as big!

For that area the price was about right. Anything in Nassau county is going to be high and the neighbors will always be close.
You should be able to find something in your range no problem.
We lost several houses and now that we have ours I am glad we did.
