I have lost 43lbs (only 7 more to go to 50) and i have done this by going to the gym and eating right since jan. I typical loss 1 to 2lbs a week and i want to continue to loss in a healthy way i don’t like the idea of pills or crazy diets. My dilemma is that it is becoming more difficult to lose weight. In an effort to keep it up i was thinking of getting a trainer which i think will tone me more and this maybe better closer to wedding plus this is expensive. Or i was thinking of maybe joining weight watchers but since i do eat healthy im not sure it would really increase my weight loss. What does everyone think makes sense for me? Help

Re: Gym & WW Girls i need your advice
congrats on the weight loss! That is amazing.
I would say it wouldn't hurt to get a trainer (I know the money is a killer) but he/she might be able to show you some things that you may not be doing now to work different muscles groups and tone different area of your body.
Check with your gym because sometimes they offer you a free personal training session before you actually commit.
As far as WW, I would say if you are already eating correctly and frequently going to the gym, I would say there is no need to to waste you money there. One thing you can do (which is WW related) is write down everything you eat. You may start to see a pattern of weight gain or loss related to certain foods and it will help you pinpoint some foods you should stay away from.
Good luck on those last 7!

Congrats on the weight loss
I joined WW and it really helped me b/c, although I was eating right, I was still eating more foods than I needed to lose.
I believe you can try one WW meeting for free (I'm sure LSorrent can confirm or correct me if I'm wrong). I'd suggest checking out a meeting and seeing if it will work for you.
Good luck!

Congrats on the 43 pounds......that's amazing!!!!! Keep up the great work!
As for WW, although you might be eating healthy, is it possible that you are still having trouble with portion sizes? If so, you may want to take a look at WW. WW teaches two things: eating smarter, and watching our portions. So you may have one or the other down, but if we're not doing both, we won't see results.
And yes, as Queensbride said, you can go to one meeting for free and then decide whether or not you'd like to join. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

I would just continue to eat healthy and going to the gym. You could get a trainer for a few sessions so they can show you machines. I would also up your protein intake and lower the fat intake if you want to tone...this will help in losing the fat but keeping the muscle.

Congratulations on your weight loss, amazing! I think a personal trainer will help you get to the next level. Some trainers are nutritionist as well. Not sure where you live but I have someone who does both and she is affiliated with few gyms. I also heard about two trainers a friend used that started up their own PT gym on Jericho Tpke near Garden City that will kick buts into shape. FM if you are interested. Keep up the good work you are doing great!

As you have less weight to lose, it becomes harder to lose. Also, your body becomes adjusted to your exercise regime and food intake.
You probably have to increase the intensity of your workouts. Since I know that's hard to do sometimes (without the motivation), I'd pursue a few sessions with a trainer. They may be able to give you a direction to lose those last 7 lbs.
Good luck!

Re: Gym & WW Girls i need your advice
congratulations!!!! before committing to a trainer, check out and see if your gym offers classes! sometimes you will hit a plateau because your body gets used to your routine. taking a body sculpting class, kickboxing, spin, even yoga, etc. will change it up and theyre usually included in your gym membership! good luck :)

Re: Gym & WW Girls i need your advice
Congrats on your weight loss! That's real motivation! The last few pounds are always the hardest to lose. As agreed with the majority of the brides here, you just have to amp up your intensity and workouts more. So instead of an hour, you increase it to 2-2 and half. Also, it helps if you don't stick with your normal routine/workouts. After awhile, the body starts adapting to the same workouts. It doesn't strengthen the muscles, instead it weakens b/c the muscle tissues are actually tearing when the same workouts are repeatedly or strenuously overworked. You have to confuse your muscles in order for it to gain/toned properly. Try switching up your core workouts, cardio, weight lifts, etc. I picked up some of these tips from DH since he does PX90.
I don't think WW/trainer is necessary unless you are a beginner and you really don't know where to start. However, you are eating healthy and working out on the right track esp since you already lost 43 lbs. A trainer is necessary for someone that is just starting to lose weight and doesn't know which direction to begin. Same with WW, it teaches people to eat the right amount of portion and healthier to get their bodies back in shape.
Good luck with your workouts and the last few pounds hun. Stay focus and I'm sure you'll get through it!

Re: Gym & WW Girls i need your advice
Congrats on your weight loss!! My recommendation to you would be to keep up the good work but try changin things up. That goes for exercise but also food. Take a look at the things you are eating...make sure you are eating enough but not too much. Sometimes when we try to lose weight we restrict so much that we don't have enough calories which prevents us from losing further. I might try using a website like fitday.com to track your calories for a bit. I did weight watchers for a long time and it worked but not completely. I think it can be great and more power to the women who do it, but for me it wasn't until I started using a nutritionist and tracking/weighing all of my food out that I really lost the weight. I was eawting very healthy foods but wasn't counting fruit or vegetables..it wasn't until I started counting EVERYTHING in my daily calories that i saw the real changes I was looking for! FM me if you want some advice or info on the nutritionist!

Re: Gym & WW Girls i need your advice
Congrats on the weight loss! I'm down 20, so I know it's not east!
I tried WW, but really didn't like it. For the, the whole points system is just extra work, and complicates things. I use an app on my iPhone called LoseIt, which is just a free calorie tracker. You put in your stats and your goals, and it calculates how many calories you should be consumer per day. You track the calories eaten per day by entering what you've eaten, and can also track calories burned from exercise. If you don't have an iPhone, SparkPeople is a great website for free calorie tracking - works the same, you just use it on your computer.
As for the gym, are you getting enough cardio in, or focusing more on weights?

Also, have you ever tried Jillian Michaels 'The Shred'? It's a 30 minute workout, but super intense - circuit training for strength, cardio, and abs. Could be a good addition to your regimen to shake things up a bit!

Congrats on the weight you lost! It's such a great feeling.
I lost 35lbs on WW and then my body stopped loosing. From what people tell me is after a while your body just stops working at the rate it was. Stepping up you work out routine should work.
I was also told to sneak in a few 'bad' things once in a while to give my body something to work harder on. I know this is odd- but this is what WW tells me.
Keep up the good work and let us know how it does.

Re: Gym & WW Girls i need your advice
That's great- Congrats! WW is a great resource to weight loss & maintenance. I started the program when I was a freshman in college & lost about 60lbs. Then I stopped & I slowly gained a bunch back (& I never really reached my goal- I really just became lazy with it, not to mention the fact that i LOATH my gym). Now its wedding time & I'm getting myself back into it. I initially signed up for a personal trainer but the $$ is insane. I could not see myself spending almost the same amount of money on a trainer that I would spend on a vendor! This is my 1st official week back on WW & I have a goal of 30lbs. by June 2010.
The first time I was on the program, I definately found it more & more difficult to lose weight as I got closer to my goal. I think that was something that REALLY frustrated me & made me stop. I think thats normal with everyone. Some tips I have heard from others include switching up your workout routines, don't eat after 8pm, and try eating smaller portions more frequently throughout the day to speed up your metabolism. I have also heard that green tea is great for your metabolism so I try to have a cup after lunch. HTH- Good Luck & Congrats again!

I would say get a trainer. If you have already been eating healthy maybe whwat you need is to tone up. It will definitely benefit you even though it is pretty expensive.
