okay so my dad is a professional musician (salsa, jazz, cumbias) and I asked him to sing me a couple of a songs at the wedding. he was very happy when i asked (this has been my dream since i was very little) and he would bring his band. I was planning on inviting his band too since theyre all close friends. Anyway, my dad asked me yesterday how many songs i was thinking and i said maybe 4 or 5. I only have a 5 hours wedding. one is for CH and that leaves 4 hous to celebrate the beginning of the wedding (intros and first dance) will take at least a half hour so i said four-five songs would anothe half hour or so leaving three hours for DJ music and someof that wont be dancing considering theres eating and cutting the cake, etc. my dad FLIPPED a LID. he said he thought hed be playing thru out the night and he even went as far as saying that this whole thing is probably FH's fault because he probably doesnt want the band which is way way way untrue! then he went on a rant on that is why its a problem to mary a diff. race because he just doesnt want spanish music (fH) and i was like WHOA WHOA WHOA the dj will be playing ALL types of music. somehow my dad thought i wouldnt be playing any spanish music 'to please fh and his family' which is ridiculous because no one even said this. ugh! so he was like 'dont worry i wont sing at your wedding. im ur dad so i have to be there and thats what i'll do'
i have no idea what to say...i was blown away by his temperment and reaction.
was i being unreasonable by requesting four songs? i really was looking forward to having th eband play. :(

yikes! that stinks! I def don't think you're being unreasonable..i mean you want him to enjoy the party as well and to be able to spend time with the family and guests and you and not have to be playing all night.

That sucks!!
I would just try and calmy exmpain to him that you want him to be a guest of honor at the wedding... not performing the entire night! I think 4-5 songs is perfect

Wow.....well I think you should wait for your Dad too cool off a little then talk to him about it again. Explain to him calmly that a lot goes on at a wedding, and that there is only so much time for everything. 4-5 songs I think is a decent amount of songs. Tell him it means a lot to you that he play at the wedding and it wouldnt be the same if he didnt. Im sure hell come around.

okay im gonna ty again tonight! lol wish me luck. I'm just sad he turned it into a race thing...FH and family has been very accepting of the multi cultural thing...i wish dad wouldnt think everyones afte us cuz we're hispanic...its a bit frustrating!

Omg, neither FH or myself are spanish, and I plan on playing a few spanish songs - No matter what the race, its awesome dancing music!!!
Maybe explain to your dad that you want him to be able to mingle around and enjoy the wedding, so you thought 4 songs was a lot?
