Had dinner with priest - he suggested I diet!

so FH and I were having dinner last night with the priest who is marrying us. I hadnt eaten all day and was starving, so at the restaurant I was CHOWING down - raiding the bread basket, eating an appetizer, finishing my meal - picking food off of FH's plate, etc. At one point the priest asks me, 'So, have you gotten your dress?' and after I say 'yes' he goes, 'My dear, are you going to fit into it?'



I should say that Colm (the priest) is a 70 year old socialist from Belfast - so he didnt mean it in a harsh way.

What did you do? I think I would have been in too much shock to speak!


ETA: I'm meeting with my priest for dinner next week...geez! I better watch what I put in my mouth!

I actually burst out laughing - he's a really cool guy and we are pretty blunt with each other.

FH nearly choked on his dinner - and then said to Colm, 'I dont know if I buy this whole 'you give us advice' arrangement if you think she's not going to kill you for saying that!'

I would have switched priests right there.

I may have hit him and hitting a priest is never a good thing.

he's actually a really nice guy. . . and we have the kind of relationship where I dont think of him as a priest - just as a friend in my life.

we are pretty blunt with each other. I've refered to the pope in unflattering terms in front of him and he goes along with it.

It really wasnt meant in an awful way at all. . . I know that sounds weird - I dont know how to explain it. . . he's more of catty girlfriend of mine than a 70 year old socialist priest from Belfast.
