Had my first muslim fitting for my dress tonight.

I am really excited about the whole process of designing my own dress. I was very nervous at first but I think it is going to come out great. I couldn't find anything in the stores that I loved so I decided to get it made.

It's called Muslin...

Hi All! Basically muslin is a very cheap fabric that designers use to make a 'mock' or copy of the actual dress. During fitting with the muslin you can still make changes with the design and perfect the fit before it is put into the actual fabric. It's a safe and great step in designing a gown b/c you get to see the shape etc, before the actual gown is cut, so you don't freak out when it's done:)!!! Good Luck with Planning! Ayanna--a happy and new bride!

Dress Maker

I am using Karin Yngvesdotter. She works out of her home in Astoria. She also does seamstress work for bridal dresses bought in stores so if anyone is looking for one check her out. www.yngvesdotter.com. Ayanna - Thanks for correcting my spelling. I obviously should have put a n and not a m.

Wow! Her work looks beautiful on her site! How long does she need to design a dress? Would you mind sharing her price range? Thanks!

Dress Maker

The price range depends on the material and style of your dress. She will work within your budget. I'm paying around $1400 but I could have gotten it cheaper if I used different material. The dresses I was looking at in the stores ranged from $1700-$2600. I'm not sure of the time I would say a few months but call her and ask or send her an email. She will answer your questions there.
