I had no idea VYC was sooo far from the city.. I made an appt to go see it but looks like we are going to have to to cancel.. no way I am going to make my guests drive over an hour to get to the reception..
I kind of feel bad bc it looks soo amazing on-line..

OMG, DO NOT rule out VYC until you have seen it. The pics on their website don't even do it justice, I was breathless the moment I went inside, it was the first hall we looked at and it was THE best decision DH & I ever made.

you cant worry about all your guests.. if you do it will be miserable tryin to plan everythig around them.. trust me DH was soo worried about what everyone was goin to do between the church and the reception and I was like they will figure it out.. and you know what they did and we had a ton of people at the church where so many people said not to be surprised if no one shows up.. Plus it was a hurricane that day and was pouring!! Everyone still made it.. Yoiu must do whats best for you guys and if you fall inlove with a place then that should be it! The guests will be prepared and the important people will be there. throughout the planning process everyone will have their own opinions and you have to understand you are not going to please everyone.. The most important people that should be happy is the both of you!
Agreed!! Besides, not everyone is going to both the ceremony and the reception...the people who care enough about you will come no matter what! My best friend from college drove from Boston for my sunday wedding and drove back, got to boston at 5am and went to work at 9am.

i agree...not everyone will go to both and honestly most ppl have like 2 or 3 hour gaps in b/w the ceremony and reception anyway so they will have the opp to kill time by driving lol it is your wedding your fam will understand and hour isnt THAT long, anything over that and maybe it is pushing it though lol

I wouldnt be too concerned about having your guests drive an hour. They will come see you - an hour is not that far. You can block hotel rooms so they dont have to drive home that night. Dont plan your wedding around your guests.

There were a lot of places in SUffolk we didn't bother to look at that I would have LOVVEEDDDD because church is in Brooklyn. We didn't think it made sense for people to have to do all that reavelling all in one day.
Plus it adds hours to your day for YOU because you have to start earlier to allow for the travel time in between in addition to time for pictures... it just wasn't worth it to us.
If a place isn't located in a good place and location is important to you, then it's NOT the right place. I don't agree with the 'It's your day, don't plan around your guests' philosophy. I mean, to a degree, yes, do what you want, but you don't want to go so far outside the realm of convenience that people aren't going to want to go or it's going to be difficult for them to do so.
