She decided that she didn't like it - I guess. Plus, I think it wasn't making her stomach feel good (if you know what I mean - I didn't want to go into detail). So, now we are going to try her on Nutro Large Breed Puppy food. We'll see how that one goes

Re: Had to change Casey's food again..........
Have you spoken with your vet to get his opinion on which brand of food is best for Casey?
I hope Casey feels better soon

Re: Had to change Casey's food again..........
See thats where it all started. We got her from a breeder - the breeder said IAMS. Then we took her to the vet for her shots and first check-up - she said Eukanuba. Then about 1 1/2 weeks later we had to take her back to the vet - the original vet was not there, the other doctor said oh - you should try Wellness. I went to a pet store to buy it and they said try Merrick. We had to take her back again yesterday for her monthly shots and the first vet was there and said oh we need to go back to the food that she likes. I am so confused. Many people I know use Nutro, so that is why I have turned to this now.

Re: Had to change Casey's food again..........
My DH (he's a vet), recommends the following three only: Iams, Eukanuba, or Science Diet (this one is a prescription food).
(My DH only recommends Iams, Eukanuba and Science Diet for dogs because the quality is superior based on the high level of trainings of the veterinarians who are associated with the products and Wellness has had some problems in the past regarding their purity, and DH has had a number of animals get sick on it. Pro Plan doesn't really have the variety of small/med/large breed, and they tend to be too high on their proteins, and the dogs tend to grow too quickly and dogs can end up with bone related problems.
My DH usually switches small breed dogs to adult food at around one year of age.
There will always be a problem re: food recommendations, because pet stores want to sell you the food, breeders have their quirks about what is necessary and most veterinarians are well informed about the dietary management because they have been involved with the sickness associated with diets). (This is copied from another post that someone asked about DHs reason for his recommendation)
I'm sorry you have gone through all this confusion.

Really - so I should try the Nutro? I am going to go back to the store tomorrow and get here either the IAMS or Eukanuba. Thank you and tell your DH, I said thank you too!

Sorry to butt in - but I just wanted to ask...when you switch his foods are you just changing it or gradually changing it?? My vet always recommended gradually introducing a new food with the old until they get adjusted to the new food. Just a suggestion

Most vets will recommend Eukanuba or Sciene Diet, because that is what they know. These companies spend tons of $$$ marketing to vets and providing them with 'nutritional' education. Many vets also sell these products. You might be OK with Eukanuba, but take a look at Science Diet's ingredients -- they are disgusting. The main ingredient is corn -- you're paying way too much $$ for a food with corn as its main ingredient/protien source. I also think Eukanuba is totally over-priced for what you get. The best advice is to learn how to read labels. Look for foods that have meat or meat meal at the top of the ingredient list and stay away from any food that includes 'by-products.' I would try to find something and just stick with it. All the changes could be causing her stomach problems.

Quite honestly - it is the vets that keep telling me different thing. I have been reading the labels, so that is why I have changed it to Nutro. Well, at least I started mixing it with the Merrick she has been eating. It was only the Merrick she was having problems with. We'll see next week, how she is doing on the Nutro. Thanks for your help everyone

I hope I didn't add to your confusion.
You have to do what you feel is best...it stinks that there has been so much confusing information.
I hope your dog does better on whichever food you choose.

Re: Had to change Casey's food again..........
I know how you feel about the vets giving you different advice and adding to the confusion. At 5 months old, my pup has been on 4 different foods, partly because one vet told me I needed an Large Breed formula and another told me it wasn't necessary. I don't know anything about Merrick, but I do know that some of the high-end foods are really rich and can cause stomach problems. Sometimes this passes after a week or so, but not always. I hope the Nutro works for you!
