That S*cks that it was gold instead of platnuim like they said. I am having the same debate you are about the plain band. The advice I have gotten (which I am leaning towards but not sure of) is that there will always be a reason as to not spend more money on your wedding band. This is one of the things that will last beyond the day so it is worth the investment.

They ripped you off and that was wrong and I'm glad you took it back. But if you loved the ring and it everyone thought it was lovely, why not just go with white gold? I'm not trying to be rude, but if it looks great and you love it, why not?
We are picking up my plain platinum band tomorrow and as soon as I have it I will post a pic for you.
Here is my thinking: go with the plain platinum wedding band and hopefully come your anniversary or birthday you can upgrade to the diamond band you always wanted!

Here is a pic of my plain platinum band with my platinum e-ring. Ask around for someone who knows someone in the business. The person who got ours got it at cost (or less possibly). In NY, that shouldnt be too hard to find. The price of our platinum bands together was approximately the half cost of FH's ring if he paid retail prices.

Not to be rude, but white gold should not fade to yellow gold. My e-ring is an antique, a grandmother's ring from the 1930's made from 14K white gold, and it has not faded to yellow gold in the past 70 years...

actually most white gold nowadays will fade. your ring is an antique back then the alloys used were different and therefore stayed white permanently. Palldium does this however in the US, palladium is usually not used anymore. Most white gold made today has rhodium plating, which does come off and then the ring looks yellow again.

Interesting. I had never heard of this. My mom's white gold rings are from '64 and now I know.

I have never personally seen a ring that has faded from white to yellow gold. I know someone said they were made differently back then, but I wear a white gold ring every day that was my grandmother's; it's beautiful over 60 years after my grandfather gave it to her.
Remember: there are always special anniversaries on which you can get a new ring.

I have several friends who have to have their rings rhodium plated at least a few times a year. Some work with harsh chemicals at work, that could explain the fading faster but I've never seen a ring that didn't fade that's been made recently.

Check out Bailey Banks & Biddle, either the Smithhaven or the Walt Whitman location. They are having a huge clearance sale, and I got my platinum band for 70% off the retail price. You could probably find a plain platinum band there for about $250 - $500.

Re: HAD TO RETURN MY WEDDING BAND..(SO SAD)
Ahhh, got ya!!!
I had a problem with them when we were looking for the e-ring as well!!! FH happens to like white gold, and when we walked in there to ask if they had any white gold rings, the woman practically sniffed her nose up at us, as if to say we weren't good enough to be looking in there! Then she asked about what budget FH had in mind (which was not a small budget) and she said 'oh, we might have 2 or 3 in that price range, but you need to get platinum')
Ugh it turned me off so much I almost didn't walk in there for my wedding band, but because of the sale, and the saleswoman I got was FAR nicer than my first experience there, I bought it.

Re: HAD TO RETURN MY WEDDING BAND..(SO SAD)
oooh, I am so shocked. I loved dealing with BBB. They were willing to show me all price ranges when I had no idea what we wanted to spend.
I ended up with a pave eternitiy band BUT I do feel that lately people stress having a diamond wedding band way too much. Everyone is into diamonds lately but there is nothing wrong with a plain band. The main reason I got eternity now is that I'm an older bride (37) and I feel like I've waited long enough and FH and I are doing well in our careers. Also, if I said I wanted to upgrade in 10 years, I'd be almost 50 by the time I got a diamond band. If I was, say 27, and getting married, I'd get a plain band and then upgrade in my late 30s.
oh--also, my mom gave me her white gold plain band. It does not match my e-ring but I will wear it sometimes.
And that, ladies, is my justicifation for going into hock over jewelry!
