haggling

haggling

every bride i talk to tells me that she 'bargained' her rh price/guarantee/menu. i'm starting to look at places, and maybe this sounds dumb, but i'm clueless about how to initiate the haggling process. when they talk about menus and prices, they sound really firm (though i haven't asked bc it just seemed too awkward). For those of you who negotiated, how'd you go about it?

I brought my Mom- the Queen of Haggling!

Having her there seriously saved us thousands!!

My FH did the haggling for us. I agree with you tho. I find it very awkward. Some questions to ask that might open up the opportunity for negotiating:

1. Does the size of our party have any effect on the price pp? (this worked for us b/c we were guaranteeing double what they required)

2. Find out about their menu. For instance, if they are doing a 3 or 4 course, ask them if it would be less $$ to take a course out.

3. Ask about different times of day.

Whether or not you are really considering any of the above, once you bring up a question, it will just let the RH know that you are looking to negotiate a bit. A friend of mine works at a RH and she said, 'Never stop asking them to throw in more stuff' (i.e., better liquor, more hors d'ouvres, stations, etc.). Chances are that they will be willing to give you some extras, even if they are not willing to drop the price.

Good Luck

Since I went to so many places when I was looking - 21 to be exact - I got a really good idea after the first few what price range I was looking at for the kinds of things I wanted, versus what my actual price range was.

So one way to haggle would be if they offer you a price per person over what you were looking for, you can be like 'wellll, I was really looking to spend around this much per person' and see what they say.

Also, if they start saying 'well we have this and that included,' you can always remind them that mysterious place you refuse to name included all that as well for a lower price.

Good luck!

I agree. It can be hard to haggle but most places expect you to. Good luck!
