Hair coloring before wedding?

HI ladies,

My FH pointed out to me last night that i have about 7 gray hairs, i was freaking out, im hoping its because of all the stress lately, Then my sister says oh no its not stress your just getting old. Im 33 so is that the normal age for your hair to start graying? Well i know i have to color it now, but how long does the color last before the grey comes out again, should i wait until the week before the wedding. Or should i color it now because im not happy living with gray hair and will that last until the wedding. I just really cant afford to get it colored more than once or twice right now, moneys pretty tight. I have 6 weeks left till the wedding.

I gave up on having my hair dyed at the salon for 60 each time. I too have grey hair and have since I was young. I use Natural Instincts, I think its called that! Its by Clairol I think and it is semi permanent which is safer for your hair! It covers my grey well and I do it every month!! It costs about $6.00 a box and could be cheaper if on sale!!

Oh honey, you have come to the right place. I got my first grey hair at 16! Yes, 16, there is no justice in this world. Grey hair AND zits I'm about 80% grey now so needless to say I'm in that chair every 6 weeks and yes, pay a pretty penny and am at the salon for almost 3 hours. If I don't I look like 'a skunk'. FH calls me 'skunk girl' when my roots start to grow in.

Six hairs at 33 is pretty good. Just use OTC stuff until it gets really bad.

I've spent the equivalent of small countries total GDP coloring my hair over the years

Yep I started getting greys in the past few months (I am 30).... I think I am just getting it highlighted and it should be fine.

I color my hair every 6-8 weeks, so my hair stylist and I have figured it out to the tee! I will be getting it recolored 2 weeks before this way it has time to relax out but not enough time for roots

I also have gray hair, starting going gray at 17. I use to use the over the counter for years, but I noticed after a while it wouldn't cover the grays anymore, so now I get it done at the salon every 5-6 weeks. I will probably go a week or 2 before the wedding. And I am 29!

I am 31 and have had grays for years! Graying has more to do with heredity than age. If you have never colored it before, I would get it done now and then again about 2-3 weeks before your wedding. It sounds like you just need a single process and you should be able to get that done for $50 or less.

I think a professional always does it better...matching color to yur skin tone, to your eyebrows...also evenness of color. OTC stuff oxidizes much faster and also tends to change color when you use it month after month...not to mention the condition of your hair...straw if not done right!

Sorry about your hair!

I don't remember when I got my first greys, but they were VERY visible by the time I was 34 (very stressful break-up with fiance #1, needed a new place to live, etc.). I think extreme stress can make you grey, though some of my friends started around the same time, so it could be natural too.

After putting up with the grey for a few months, I decided I was too young to be grey, so I had it done professionally a few times. But it's expensive, so I finally started doing it myself. I use Garnier Nutrisse, and if you pick a color close to your natural color, it's not difficult at all.

Re: Hair coloring before wedding?

I've been grey since I was about 18...actually silver so its very noticable next to my almost black hair.

Im going to get my hair colored 2 weeks before my wedding...its not enough time for roots to grow it....but just enough time for the die on my scalp and anything that may fall on my ears to wash off.

since your wedding os so close...I wouldn't experiment on your own... now is not the time...have it professionally done...(my hair soaks up color funny and even though I have colored my sisters and mother's hair manytimes with no issues...when I attempt to do my own I get spots)
