Hair/Makeup
My wedding isn't until August and was wondering when I should start looking for someone to do my hair and makeup. When you find someone you like do you have to sign a contract or make a deposit like other vendors? There have been a lot of recommendations from this board but I'm thinking it's still too early for me to worry about it.

My wedding is not until next February and the person that I was recommended to is booked. I would say you should try to at least see who is available for your date.

Some do contracts, some don`t. My make up person did but not the hairdresser. In the wedding world, we are contract-oriented but the smaller vendors like a hairdresser make up person may not be. I don`t think it`s too early to find someone on either. You don`t have to decide the exact lipstick color or hairstyle but I think if you have your headpiece, you probably are already getting an idea of how you want your hair and you can go for a trial. The main reason to go earlier is so you are not stressed at the end. On my first trial, it was clear to me that I didn`t want this person doing my hair for the wedding so the search continued. Especially if you are getting married in a popular month, if you love someone`s work, you want to secure them sooner than later. Rule of thumb is to handle the things you can as soon as you can because there are so many things to do towards the end that you can only handle then. I am using Janet Bari in Bayside for make up. I went for a trial and LOVED it, I didn`t look overly made up but it was so much nicer than I could do for myself and it stayed all day which is key for the wedding day pictures.

Can you give me Janet's phone number? Who are you using for your hair? What is the price range for hair and makeup? Thanks for your help.

I am using my regular hairdresser at L`Arte in Forest Hills for my hair. He is coming to me with another hairdresser and they're doing 4 heads for $60 for updos, $40 for a blow out. Janet`s # is (718) 423-4066. Her prices depends on how many people she is doing. In my case, I will be $100 and the others are $75 each.
