How long before your wedding day are you dying your hair?
I need a MAJOR root touch up, but I am 42 days away. I want it to look fresh but not 'WOW SHE JUST DYED HER HAIR'.
What do my LIW gals suggest?

I did the dye job two days before my wedding and didnt wash my hair before the wedding. She said fresh clean hair doesnt hold curls as well.

Thank you for all the replies...
but here is my question..... I normally go two shades darker than my original color. It takes about 3 washings to get me not looking like Elvira. If I dye my hair one week before my wedding, and not wash it the day of (Our rehearsal dinner is the night before, starts at 7 and ends at 10:30, so it will have a good amount of product in it)...will my curls still hold? Will I not look like Elvira? I am just starting to freak out and the woman doing my hair is a family friend and has done my hair for years. I rather freak out with you ladies then infront of her!!!!!!!!!!!

What did she suggest??? I know dirty hair holds curls much better than clean but you dont want it so dirty it looks oily. Maybe do it 5 days before??

Re: HAIR QUESTION...for those who dye...
if you do it now youll definitely have to do it again before the wedding. Two weeks to about a week before would be good

I'm not going for my trial until July 5th...I know talk about waiting until last minute!!! I trust her and know she'll do beautifully. I didn't want to ask her cause I'm afraid she is gonna laugh (only because she knows me) and call me a freaked out bride!!!
I am just concerned because dying your hairs dries it out, and we are talking early August which with my hair...means enough oil to re-grease a car. I want my hair to look fresh but not Elvira and my curls to hold like curly Sue!!!
Ahhh...what is a bride to do!!!!!

Re: HAIR QUESTION...for those who dye...
I did mine two weeks before the wedding and that was perfect for me. Although when I got back from the honeymoon I had pretty bad roots already.

Re: HAIR QUESTION...for those who dye...
I dyed my hair one month before the wedding and then I went last Saturday for a glaze, which is like a color boost.

Re: HAIR QUESTION...for those who dye...
i just got mine done yesterday, and my wedding is currently 8 Days 7 Hours 7 Minutes 36 Seconds away :) she told me definitely don't go the week of, because then it won't have time to settle??? might be different for dying vs. highlighting though...

Re: HAIR QUESTION...for those who dye...
I know what you mean. I dye as well and when I first do, the color (an eggplanty-chocolatey brown color), it is vibrant. My FMIL dyed me two nights ago...that was two weeks and three days before the wedding. I'll have a few washings in between and the color will dull slightly. HTH

I am going a week out. But I think that if you go 2 weeks before for a full head of color you will be good to go!
