ok...but, then, my question is this...
If the person owns a salon...the prices that she charges, should be set in order to cover her expenses...and doesn't she get a cut of what all the other hairdressers in the salon make? That's why it's always been the standard that you don't tip the owner...all of that money you've paid her, goes to her...
if this person is in their own home...and you pay them...$60 or whatever...you have already paid for that service...anything over that...is not a tip...you've just increased the charge for the service...but still got the same service...
that's what I don't understand about tipping...

Its hard to charge to cover ALL her expenses...my mom's salon was in manhattan and rent is expensive...You cant go charging insane prices and say well you need to cover the cost of my rent...and think about supplies, do you know how expensive it gets at a salon to constantly order all those things. Plus the telephone bill, con ed bill and all that. Yes it depends, every salon is different...some get salary and some get commission, some get a mix...many times about 30-40% goes to the owner but this is on the commission side, otherwise there is a salary the salon owner does HAVE to give to the workers...also dont forget receptionists and assistants, wash girls all will get a salary....but trust me when you're paying the rent for these places which can be insane, one person i know was paying $20,000 a month. Plus dont forget things i said like these ppl dont have any health benefits or anything like that.

I think ppl look at tipping too technical and sit there like but wait they own this or this and that...I do it bc i appreciate what they did, it is a service that yes is custom to tip and for me its a thank you to them.

i agree....one trial was at the person's house and the other trial i had was at HER salon. But I know she isnt making a crap load of money off of every client. She just opened her new salon with a partner and they are the only ones working in it. They didnt hire anyone yet because of expenses. But I agree you should tip. Whether at home or not. Yes I went to the person's home so she wasnt paying a salon- but she deserves a tip. I mean she did take time out of her day to have me come to her house instead of the salon. SO I think tipping is a nice gesture.
