Hair Updo

Hair Updo

How long does hair need to be in order to be put up? If I were to grow my hair out, it will likely be about 2 inches below my shoulders by the time of my wedding. Think that is long enough?

Also, my hair is VERY thin/fine... all the updos I see look like there is a TON of hair (lucky!!!) Is there anyone who has fine hair who put their hair up without using extensions?

Thanks,
Deb

speak to your hairstylist. there are tons of options if you want an updo. she would have to see and feel your hair in order to tell you how an up-do will really look.

-you can buy a 'fake' up-do and it clips right into your hair. but your hairstylist will have to style it a bit.

-you can rent extensions which are pretty cheap.

I have very fine hair also, but I've always had up-do's for my proms and other weddings I've been in. The stylists know what works for different hair types and somehow, they always manage to make it look like I have a ton of hair! If you want an up-do, you should definitely try and I'm sure they will make it beautiful!

I'm having an updo and have VERY fine hair. Pics in my hair trial album. My hair is about 4 or 5 inches below my shoulders. The way she styled it made it seem a lot fuller than it is.

from looking at your pics, i would never be able to tell that you have fine hair... she did a great job!

yours is also a good 3-4 inches than mine... not sure how much the length will affect it either.

originally i wanted just the front pulled back, but i get concerned that between the thin hair and the weight of the veil, that the veil will just slide down through my hair. even barrettes don't 'grip' the way they would for a full, thick head of hair.

how long is your hair? mine's not only fine, but it's on the shorter side too (by the time of the wedding, it should be about 2 inches past my shoulders - i hope!!)

i have fine hair, and was able to get an updo easily without extensions. i did grow my hair out though - it was probably 4 inches below my shoulders by the time of my wedding.

I have very fine hair. When I did my hair trial, my hair was probably a couple of inches below shoulder length. The trial looked really amazing (I used Hairscultping by Renee), but I wanted it a little bit fuller. My hair grows ridiculously fast, so I got the full look I wanted to achieve. I wish I had a picture from my trial because it really did look good at 2 inches below shoulders!

This picture was my super fine hair on the wedding day (my hair was a lot longer than 2 inches below my shoulders though):

i'm thinking that at 2 inches below my shoulders it won't look full enough - especially since it's very fine. i'm envious of you - my hair takes awhile to grow. yours looks great in your pics... the updo is beautiful! :)

my hair is between my chin and shoulders.. this is what she was able to do when i was a bridesmaid.. I have no idea what i am doing for my wedding, but updos are possible with short hair ;)

thanks! it looks a lot thicker than it actually is.
definitely skip the conditioner when doing an updo - it prevents the hair from being too slippery.

thanks so much for posting the pics in your album! my hair is like that length now, so by the time of the wedding it should be an inch or so longer - they should definitely be able to get it up then.

what about the texture of your hair? mine is so fine (ugh!)

Re: Hair Updo

the hair dresser always says I have 'alot of fine hair' so it's not thin, but the hair itself is really fine.
