Ok, just need to get this off my chest, and would LOVE advice from you ladies (sorry if it's long).
A while back I had told my every day hair stylist that I would come to his salon the morning of with my bridesmaids to get our hair done. After thinking more about it, I decided it wasn't going to work because we'd have to schlep 8 people from riverhead to sayville and then back and the travel time would be way too much. So, i looked into other options, had a trial and booked someone else.
A few weeks after booking someone else, I tell him and he then offers to come to the hotel with an assistant and do all our hair. Since he's a family friend (but keep in mind he said NO to the wedding, and my dad is P.O'd about it), I felt obligated to say yes, even though he was charging me just about double for the services the other girl was charging, and didn't even give me a break because i'm a family friend (no joke - my dad has known his partner for 25 years and they set up my dad and his gf. My dad and his gf have gone to EVERYTHING of theirs, and he's saying he can't come because he has other plans and can't cancel his clients which to me is BS but whatever)
So, I go for a trial last week and it was TERRIBLE! All i want is my hair down and a little pinned up on the left side (just like KK did during her reception - see pic below) and it was just horrid. He said it was because my hair was too soft so he couldn't do anything with it (first time someone has told me that my hair is TOO nice/soft). I was there from 3:30 - 8 PM in the salon and he couldn't do what I wanted. And it's really not even a complicated style - I could do it, that's how easy it is. And if I could do my own hair for the wedding, I probably would but i really wanted a professional to do it.
So, he didn't charge me for the trial, and I'm going back in there at 7:30 am tomorrow morning (saturday) to see what he can do with it. BUt I dunno ladies... part of me just wants to cancel him all togther and find someone else. I know it's last minute, but there are a few people available and I just feel like maybe I should just have another trial and go with someone else. What do you ladies think? Really need advice here!!!!
Thanks gals!!

If your having any doubts about him, then I'd cancel and find someone else.
You don't want to be looking back at your pictures after the wedding and having any type of regret.

Re: Hair vent - NEED ADVICE!
if your not loving it and scared that he can't come through for you then you have to find someone else
your paying double the price for something he might not be able to do...i would cancel with him after your second trial if he still cant get it but just the fact it took him 5 hours for that hairstyle is scary...you can find someone for cheaper and who can do it...i hope it works out...keep us posted after tomorrow's trial
ETA: sorry i also forgot to mention ITA with Kshea..its your wedding Aly you have to feel beautiful and dont want to regert it cause hes a family friend who is charging you double and isnt coming to your wedding...

ITA - it doesn't matter if he's a family friend. It's your wedding, why pay double for soemthing you don't want!

ITA with this. If he wasn't a family friend would you even think twice about it? I think you need to just treat him like a professional. If he can't do what you want then get someone else. (My usual hairdresser who I go to for haircuts is very open about the fact that he doesn't really do formal hair....but he's amazing with cuts, so he's not in the least offended when I go to someone else for updos and things like that.)
Not to mention if he has so many other things going on that day then maybe he won't mind that you're not using him!

This... Hope it works out. Do you have a contract with him or a verbal contract?

I am def. a little bit of a bridezilla but I feel like this is YOUR day. You shouldn't have to worry about others feelings (especially when they don't seem to reciprocate). If you are not 100% happy with the way you look, it is going to take away from your day. I am sure you spent a fortune on pics and video and you don't want to look back and think about how you weren't happy with your hair. You should feel the most beautiful you have ever felt on your wedding day.

Agreed! I am super obsessed with my hair, it's like the most important part of getting ready for me...maybe even more important than my dress. I would find someone you love!

Do what your heart tells you, if he didnt pull it off the first his not going to tomorrow. If theirs other people available go with someone else, so that you dont have any regrets or look at your pictures 5 years from now and hate the way your hair looked. So I say....look for another vendor.

Re: Hair vent - NEED ADVICE!
i would go ahead and find someone else. regardless of whether its your fathers friend or not, if you don't like it and he tried for 4½ to do a hairstyle and he still couldn't get it right, i would be super worried and i would flip on my wedding day if my hair didn't look glam!

Re: Hair vent - NEED ADVICE!
i def think you need to cancel him and book someone else. you dont want to have any doubts on your wedding day - nor do you have 5 hours to spend getting your hair done the day of the wedding! plus, the fact that he is charging double doesnt help the situation...you could always use the out that your girls dont want to pay that much so you need to hire someone else...this way he isnt offended that its his lack of ability to do your hair?

Re: Hair vent - NEED ADVICE!
I would go to the trial tomorrow and see what happens. If he STILL can't get it and you are still not happy, then cancel him and move on. He's not coming to your wedding for what you think is a BS reason and your dad is mad, so no worries. Look around and find someone who will make you feel as beautiful as you are!

Re: Hair vent - NEED ADVICE!
I have to agree with everyone on this...You can't feel bad or awkward about this one...If you aren't happy and are nervous than just cancel. It's better than feeling a little weird now than down right mad after the wedding when you look at your pictures. He isn't worried about what your faily thinks by not coming to your wedding so who cares what he thinks if he can't manage to do your hair right...IMO...

Absolutely agree with this!!! You are going to have to look at pictures for the rest of your life and you dont want to keep saying, 'Ugh, I hated my hair' and forget about how beautiful and wonderful a day it was!!
