Hair/Makeup Pics

So, I had a hair and makeup trial with Glam Me Up yesterday. Kelly and Lisa were so nice and helpful, and did exactly what I asked them to do.

Here's the thing. I'm not positive I love the hair. Lisa did exactly what I asked her to do, which was create a curly style that gave me lots of volume, and pulled it out of my face. I'm just not sure that what I wanted was what actually looks good on me.

I need your opinions ladies! I can handle brutal honesty, so don't feel like you have to say it looks nice if you don't think it does. LOL

Pics are in my album!

And another question for girls who have had their trials already. I know in order to hold a curl the hair needs a lot of hair spray. But is there anyone who knows how to get a softer look (ie, not so stiff and almost shiny) while still giving the hold that is needed for curls to last all day?

Thanks in advance ladies!!!

I think you look purrrty! But I get what you're saying about the hair. I think it looks exactly as you described you wanted it...but it ended up coming out a little dated looking. It being pulled back with volume at that point on ur head is like 'hey 90s bride hair!' Lol but I don't think that's the stylists fault I think it's just you imagine a look in your head it just didn't suit you when it was done...I recommend pulling the hair back at a lower point on your head..maybe even at the base of your neck..it would make a softer style and more updated...try that and see how it looks. Hope that helps!!

I think your hair looks great, and definitely not just saying that wish I had an answer to the non stiff curls. I would ask the hair dresser and I would love to hear if there was a solution... Good luck making a decision

Meejack, I completely agree with you about the dated. And it's not the stylist's fault at all. She gave me exactly what I asked for. Maybe I'll try having it pulled back lower next trial. If I find a style I like, I'd love to book the girls at glam me up.

Thanks everyone for your opinions!!

Simonearissa, do I remember you being a hair stylist? Maybe you can answer the question about the curls? (If you see this lol)

Oh and Flynn, I got airbrush. I like the look of traditional makeup, but for a daytime wedding I think it's too heavy. Airbrush was light and didnt make me feel like I was 'done up' too much.

I think the style you're aiming for will look beautiful on you, but you're right that it could be softer...maybe a different curling iron barrel size? And more bounce, less stiffness to the curls? But you're definitely going to make a beautiful bride! :)

You look great. I had an appointment with Kelly and Lisa yesterday also. I totally agree with the hairspray looking stiff also. I was asking around to find out what to do about that also. I will let you know if I find anything out.

You look great! I had a hair and makeup trial with glammeupdowntheaisle which is not the same as Kelly but I too felt my hair look stiff and curled. I mean it held the whole day which was a BIG plus and it wasn't frizzy at all but I didn't know if it was outdated. I am so surprised at how your airbrushed came out. I had airbrush and it definitely looked caked on, maybe she had used the wrong shade? Hm so weird. I didn't like the airbrush because I felt like I had SOOO much make up on yet I had heard the opposite. This by far has been the most stressful thing yet..

Lisa, you must've been right before me. Tey said another girl from these boards was there before me that day. Lol

Mrspy- I actually almost felt like there wasn't enough makeup on with the airbrush, but as I don't wear a lot of makeup and have pretty even clear skin, it didnt bother me too much. Do you have pics from the airbrushing? I'd like to see what yours looked like!!

I had a 10am appointment. Kelly told me they had another appointment for a June 2014 bride coming in after me, that must have been you!!

Your makeup looks beautiful! I see what you're saying about the hair. Maybe you can suggest using hot rollers at your next trial? I actually use them often on the weekends for a wavy look by on keeping them in for 10 minutes. If you keep them in for longer, it creates a beautiful curl that sounds like what you're looking for. Plus it holds a ton better than the traditional curling iron - at least in my experience! Then you won't need as much hairspray

I agree, maybe try pulling it back a little lower and I think it will look a lot better. I like the make up also because it looks very natural and you don't want to look too caked up in make up on your wedding day.

Another suggestion, maybe try using the wand (it's similar to a curling iron without the clamp) instead. It makes your hair look amazing with just a little hair spray. It doesn't look as stiff and shiny either.

I love the make up and I like hair... but I agree with meejack about the '90s bride' because thats what I first though. Maybe ask her to do softer, 'beachy' waves next time? Or do curls with the straightening iron rather than a curling iron? Or maybe a bigger curling iron and don't use the clamp... just wrap it around? Or even hot rollers? But I've seen how long your hair is so idk how well hot rollers would work.

And then regarding the hair spray... I use Biosilk Finsih finishing spray in the 'natural hold' and it sounds like what you're looking for.

The make up is PERFECT. Super natural and just gorgeous!

I like the makeup but not a big fan of the hair 'do! i
It doesn't flatter you and does look dated. Would u consider an updo or are u set on having down with curls?

Yes!! I was racing to answer this question and then saw you mentioned me lol..

If your hair holds well on a general basis (which most people know about themselves: if you get a blowout does it still lol good the next day, if you curl it with an iron does is dramatically fall or does it look good all night) then you should be good with whatever prepping products they use: thermal Protestants, any creams they use for the flyaways.. And then a quick mist of light hairspray.
BUT if your hair is limp or heavy and the style always falls out, you definitely need the hairspray!!!
My suggestion if you don't know is to ask them if you do another trial to go lighter on the hairspray bc you're not aiming for it to hold for the day and see how it holds up without it.

As far as the style I think the concept is soooo pretty on you! BUT I agree with what some other girls said that its dated.. But there's only one part that looks dated: where the curls come together at the top. Very 80s! I think they could give you volume by teasing the hair that they smooth back and then giving you big curls through the hair that's down- you don't only have the option of getting volume through a big pile of curls at the top!

Yes this also!! They can set you with hot rollers which would give you a ton of volume and hold and touch of pieces with a curling iron to use less spray.

I love the makeup, it looks perfect on you. As for the hair, I was planning to do something similar, with a half updo and curls starting from the nape of the neck.
I love the suggestions all the ladies have posted here, so very helpful! You guys are so knowledgeable, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to hair and makeup.

Simone, thanks for the tips!! I'm going to probably do one more hair trial and literally bring a copy of what you just wrote. LOL

I agree about the curls on the top of the head. Don't get me wrong, I think it was pretty, especially because my hair is like overcooked spaghetti most of the time, so seeing it with that much volume was awesome.

I probably should let you ladies in on a secret. I was also wearing 2 layers of clip on extensions, which also may have given the illusion of having a ton more hair than I actually have. I was going for the voluminous look, but based on the dress I choose, I may want to go for a more demure look.

I also think that the stylist was thinking about a veil when putting those curls together at the top, because I explained that I'd be wearing a blusher on my veil and so I wanted to make sure it didn't make my hair static-y.

I guess we'll see what happens next time, right?

Thanks for all the opinions girls, I really do appreciate them! Especially because they were honest, now I won't look like one of the girls from Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion for my wedding. LOL
