Halloween or Thanksgiving?

Which theme do you like better for a wedding?

We're thinking about doing either or... either way, we're probably going to do mini-pies for favors, and incorporate a lot of fall colors and such. The main difference would probably be that if we did Halloween we would have it on Halloween Eve and probably have pumpkin centerpieces w/ candles in them, if we had it Thanksgiving themed, it would be sometime in November and we would have perhaps an apple themed centerpiece.

We're having a lot of kids, so we don't want it to be too 'spooky' or anything. But we might be having it at a castle (haven't booked a RH yet) so I think that would add to the 'spook' factor if it were Halloween Eve. We also might be 'forced' into Thanksgiving since at most places we've visited, November prices are a bit nicer to us. However, we may have the option.

What do you think? Any suggestions for either idea?

Just wanted to update and say that if we did Thanksgiving theme, it wouldn't be on Thanksgiving, just at some point in November (1st wknd, 2nd wknd, whenver)

i think that if you do either theme, it will both be beautiful. I love fall colors and you can do so much with that theme!

Re: Halloween or Thanksgiving?

I like both, both LOVE the Halloween theme. FUN, FUN, FUN!!! I actually wanted to have one...a halloween masquerade ball theme. But FH's bday is the night before so he wanted a diff date. Thanksgiving is hard for guests and some family members who are married or in a relationship where they split holidays or travel for holidays. Besides, it is also closer to Christmas/Hanukkah which can put people in a money crunch.

just want to add that you 'may' have some color still at Halloween, but by Thanksgiving, the trees go bare. something to keep in mind...

Re: Halloween or Thanksgiving?

I like the Thanksgiving theme! Thanksgiving lends itself to the beautiful fall colors more IMO. Also, I am not a fan of Halloween! I think Thanksgiving is a nicer and more pleasant theme for a wedding.

Re: Halloween or Thanksgiving?

Why not incorporate them both and do a fall theme?

Re: Halloween or Thanksgiving?

i voted for halloween. it seems more fun and creative and i think there is a lot more stuff you can do detail wise.
i always thought it would be cool to do a halloween wedding.

a thanksgiving wedding doesnt seem like a theme to me. if you use fall colors like oranges, browns and yellows then it just feels to me like you are using the colors for the season and not the holiday you know what i mean?

i agree with these girls. i voted for thanksgiving. although, i still thing you could use some of the same ideas. the pumpkin centerpiece is appropriate for all of the fall season in my opinion

Re: Halloween or Thanksgiving?

i think you can do the fall colors and still have a lot of fun with the halloween theme. my brother's getting married on halloween and we have so much STUFF to use as decorations as opposed to thanksgiving. for example my FSIL's shower is in the summr but we are doing a spider covered veil and skull head lanterns

Re: Halloween or Thanksgiving?

Halloween is way cooler!!

you could have carved pumpkins and hay bails and candy corn...

you could have a table for kids and let them draw faces on pumpkins...

i love halloween
