Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

I'm having a hard time decided where to block rooms. I called Best Western to block them and it was $169. I feel like that is a lot of $$ for my guest to pay, but I don't want them feeling like they can't party because of the drive home from Giorgio's (most people planning on staying over live in Nassau or the city). I do like that it is relatively close to our reception and when the party is over they won't have a long shuttle ride to the hotel. I also like that there is a lounge area for the guests to hang out in before the reception since there is a large gap after the ceremony.

I have not yet heard back from Jennifer at the Hampton Inn on how much each room would be. I left two messages, but since I'm here in CA, I'm thinking that its going to be difficult to get in touch with her. If the price is good, then I guess I could block there and hopefully there is someplace close by for the guests to go and get a drink or somehting before having to head to Giorgio's.

If you blocked rooms at the Hampton Inn, how much are you getting them for? What are your guests doing before going to the reception (if there's a lot of time in between the ceremony and reception)? Do you think if I got a cheaper quote from the Hampton Inn, can I talk the Best Western down? Thanks.

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

the price made up my mind..
Hampton Inn $119 per night
best western $169 pernight,
No offense, but I'd rather stay at the hampton inn

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

We stayed at the Best Western for a wedding out there in May and it was horrible. They will not budge on the price, trust me and the rooms were definitley not worth the $169. They were extremely TINY!! The bar in the hotel, well, the bride and groom payed extra money to the hotel for them to keep the bar open after the reception for guests, well we all got back and they told us sorry the bar is closed. They had absolutely nothing to eat or drink in the hotel. The vending machines were all broken. Plus the whole place smelled. The elevators smelled like puke, because someone threw up in them the night before and they barely cleaned it and they were painting on out floor and the fumes were horrible. I definitely don't recommend them. I wish I had known about the Hampton Inn, we would have stayed there!! Oh and there are no stores around the Best western if you even wanted to go out and get your own drinks!!

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

is there anything around the Hampton Inn for my guests to go to before taking the shuttle to Giorgio's? If not, is anyone planning on doing anything for them in a meeting room or something? I was thinking that maybe I could use a meeting room or something to have some drinks or something for the guests... i wonder how much that would be....

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

Best Western would not budge for me either! The pcies I got online were cheaper than the 'group rate' they gave me of $169...she said it retails for $209---DOUBTFUL!!!!!!

We decided on Hampton Inn...$139 a night for our guests....Jennifer was very nice to talk to, but I had to call her a few times to get ahold of her. You might want to try doing that. WHen she did return my call she said she had 30 other calls waiting for return calls. It does not matter to me if there is no LOUNGE for them to hang out in, because by the time they get there, check in, and relax for an hour, its off to teh reception!!

There is also a continental breakfast eery day for guests!!

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

This a very helpful thread! I am also struggleing with this decision! I found that the Best Western was appealing since it was so close to the reception but thought it was expensive. the Hampton Inn was a further ride and I was concerned about traffic since I am gettign married Memorial Day weekend. The Best Western is in the process of renovating the hotel. Has anyone gone there recently? Any other opinions???

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

I am figuring now that it is less driving for my guests to do from the church in St. James. They can take the shuttle the rest of the way there and relax. I am still waiting to hear from Jennifer... I don't want to be annoying by leaving yet another message, but I do realize that I'm not the only one trying to ge a hold of her.

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

I think if you are having a lot of guests, use the Hampton Inn. I've stayed there and its always been great.

We used the BW, but we only had a few people using a hotel, and it was just easier to put them up closer to the actual wedding/reception. No one complained to me, but then I don't know if they were just being polite :)

If we had more people that could have benefitted from the complimentary shuttle they offered to use with my catering hall, i would have blocked at the Hampton Inn also.

DH and I were just there in May for a wedding at the Vinyard. And as a guest I was royally po'd at the choice of hotel. For $169 a night we expected a nice rom and an overall nice hotel. Instead we had a full size bed which we could barely sleep in together and the room was so tiny. The hotel smelled and there was nothing near it to get drinks for our room and the hotel vending machines were all broken, except for one which had nasty vitamin water in it. And the people were really rude and majorly SNOTTY !!!!! This is just my opinion as a guest!! DH and I had a better stay at a motel 6 than at the best western!!

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

I had this exact problem a few months ago... I went with the Hampton Inn. I went to both places to give them the reason of the doubt... HAMPTON WON BY FAR! It was at least $20 a room cheeper and they provide transportation to the reception! I figure if all my guests are together then they wont mind the longer ride on the bus.

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

I'm not sure how close it is, but I am pretty sure a few girls having their wedding there are blocking rooms at the Hampton Inn. My guess is that it can't be too far!

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

i agree it takes a few calls to get jen - you could always just go there if you have time - she is actually really great to deal with.
we were quoted 139
what really did it for me was the place itself - i ahve been to both and i would have to say the hampton inn is much nicer than the best western ( which to me seems kind of cold and dark )

Jennifer gave me a quote of $149.... do you think I could talk it down at all? I've never really done this before. Has anyone else?

Re: Hampton Inn vs. Best Western East End

That is the quote we got for the Hampton Inn for next summer also. It is pricier in the summer months because of all the tourists.
