Re: Hand Cancel?
I didn't ask them to put my Mom told me that they were. I took them to the Hicksville post office. I was excited that they did it for me w/o being asked.

Can someone please explain HAND CANCELING to me????
Hand cancelling is when the post office clerk uses a stamp to cancel the postage instead of running it thru the machine to cancel the stamps. The postage must have have the post offices stamp or printing over it so that you cannot reuse the stamps. When they run the envelopes thru the machine the ink smears and even worse than that the machine crushes your envelopes and they don't look as nice.
ETA: the next time you get your mail, look at the printing over the stamps and the barcode thing that gets printed, this happens when they run it through the machine. If it is hand cancelled it will just have a little round USPS stamp over the postage
Thanks! So, if I tell them I want them hand canceled, will they do it definitly? Should I stay and watch them do it? Are they annoying about it?
Not necessarily, depends on the post office and the person... I stopped in a couple of days before and asked them when a good time would be to come in (when it wouldn't be that busy) and the woman said it was hard to tell, so I asked if I came in and it was busy would she mind if I cancelled them myself at the counter and she said no problem, so I asked what days she worked so that she would remember me when I came in and I went on a day she was there and she let me stamp them myself and helped me in between her other customers. She was very nice. Every last one of my invitations got to their destination with no problem. I went to the Deer Park Post office on Carll's Straight Path.

Re: Hand Cancel?
I didnt have mine hand cancelled. I saw a bunch of the envelopes after they had been sent and they all looked fine. Plus to me it is just an envelope....people rip it open and never even notice.
