Yes what's hand cancel?

After you drop your envelopes in the mail, the post office runs them through their machine, which quickly sorts and cancels out the postage so it can’t be used again. Since it’s a machine, your envelope runs the risk of getting snagged or damaged. When an envelope is hand cancelled, the postage stamp is hand stamped to cancel out the postage. In the image above, the photo on the left has gone through the regular machine. The image on the right was hand cancelled. Some people choose to hand cancel their invitations to preserve the look of their envelopes and stamps. Boom!

My SIL sent her invites out with a delivery point bar code. She actually printed the bar code as stickers and placed them at the bottom of the envelope. The PO can scan the code instead of putting it through the machine. I learned this after I sent out my invites as even though you hand cancel, without the bar code, they are still run through their machine. I am attaching pictures. Hopefully they post. Its the line at the bottom of the envelope. I addressed my own envelopes and at the end I noticed that the program I was using actually printed the code. I just had to check off the option.

That makes sense.....so it sounds like hand canceling only eliminates one machine. I guess that's better than nothing, especially since it sounds like the second machine can't be avoided.

I am a little freaked out because I have crystals on my invites. I hope they're ok!

Noelle, I'm going to ask what they suggest when I pick mine up. Hopefully, they'll provide some reassurance.....I'll let you know what I find out!

I had the rhinestones on the outside of our invite on our monogram and it was rubbing up again the envelope. I heard some invites were delivered with a hole since the rhinestone went through the envelope since the PO sorted them using their machines. At that point I didn't care so long they were delivered.
