Hand cancel

Is it true that no post offices do this anymore?
I went to mine over the weekend to mail something and asked if they do this and said no we haven't in years. My invite place told me that I need to have mine hand cancelled.

Ugh, I'm going to have to do this too. I planned to visit a bunch and ask around. A friend of FH's said she hand cancelled her invites herself (they gave her the stamp and told her to go to town).....in Brewster.

Did you get your invites at You're Invited to Celebrate? I know they have a mailing service, so I'm hoping they know of one who does it. If not, I'm goin to Brewster!

My post office in East Rockaway gave me the plug and I did them myself. She just double checked the weight and postage, and then showed me what to do. I had no problems.

It's definitely not true! I go to the Brightwaters post office and they do it with no problem. I made them do it for my engagement party invites and thank you cards. I knew it was necessary but I love how it looks and they didn't have a problem doing it!

It's not true. They still hand cancel. My mom got it done at the Albertson post office..

I hand canceled mine own at the Malverne Post office.

I got mine hand canceled at the Floral Park post office.

I had to ask if it could be done at my post office and was then told that only 10 at a time could be done. I asked if I could have the stamp and do it myself and they let me. Make sure your envelope has the bar code at the bottom, if not, it will still be run through their machines.

I just dropped off my invitations last night and I watched the guy hand cancel them in front of me. I asked if he wanted me to do it and he said he has nothing better to do! So, they definitely still hand cancel.

yeah my post office told me they will still go through a machine even when u hand cancel.

My SIL sent her invites out with a delivery point bar code. She actually printed the bar code as stickers and placed them at the bottom of the envelope. The PO can scan the code instead of putting it through the machine. I learned this after I sent out my invites as even though you hand cancel, without the bar code, they are still run through their machine. I am attaching pictures. Hopefully they post. Its the line at the bottom of the envelope. I addressed my own envelopes and at the end I noticed that the program I was using actually printed the code. I just had to check off the option.
