Re: hand canceling
I didnt do mine and they were fine......I had pocket folds with a ribbon around the outside of the pocket but no buckle or bow that would make a bump

Re: hand canceling
my post office gave me NO PROBLEM doing this!! I brought 2 boxes of invites in on 2 seperate days, and both times they gladly did it, and congratulated me over and over. It was Sound Beach post office if you live in the area

Re: hand canceling
I had the option of having them hand canceled in the city (first 50 envelopes free) or the ease of just bringing them to the PO by home and not having them done. I chose the easy way and there didn't seem to be any problems. I had a ribbon on mine that caused a slight bump but nothing I was worried about.

Re: hand canceling
You can do it your self - We did they jsut give you the stamp - If you dont hand cancel sometimes it smudges the copy and puts marks on the envelopes that is what I am noticing on my RSVP Envelopes

Re: hand canceling
Hand canceling just means that the post office people will stamp each of your stamps over with the little mark that shows you can't use the stamps again by hand rather than sending the envelopes through a machine that generates the cancellation on the stamps. Otherwise, every time you got a letter in the mail you could just peel the stamps off and use them again. :)
I went to the main post office in downtown Brooklyn one morning around 7:30 am with 65 envelopes (the first batch I was sick of looking at in my apartment) and gave the lady in the window the whole box. She said she couldn't do them then, but promised they'd be done and mailed that day. The next day I already heard from family on Long Island that they'd received them, and two days later, they got to Jersey. The third day, Florida and Chicago. Good enough for me!
I had about 10 more envelopes I needed to mail from North Carolina and the woman at the post office in Raleigh just hand stamped each for me. Those are already received (I mailed them a week ago, so I'd hope so).
I didn't really care about how the envelopes looked, just that they got to their destinations. Since I printed the envelopes myself in my laser printer at home, the ink was already sort of smearing (oops) so I didn't want to risk them looking any worse. I have about 10 more invites to mail and those are probably going to get stuck in a mail box. There's only so many trips to the post office anyone can make...
