Hand Canceling Stamps

When you mailed out your invites who hand canceled your stamps? You or the post office?

Just bring the stack to the post office and ask them to hand cancel them. They are use to it.

they gave me the stamp to do it myself because i had so many but when i had like 6 to stamp they did it for me but i watched them

The post office - they wouldn't let me do them. I was skeptical but they arrived to everyone intact.

When I went the guy said to just give them to him and he'd do it... I politely for the second time said I'd like them hand cancelled and I would do them if he would like... he went into the back and got this other lady to help out since there was a bit of a line... on their little 'desk' thing more of a letter weigher... I fed her 2 at a time as she stamped them and moved them to the bin I placed another 2 and we got through them in a couple minutes top. She was very nice about it!

they may not let you do it yourself at some Po's ( I know one in NJ let me do a bunch once)
but none of them should mind that you request them be done right then and there.

I went to the one in Hauppauge, on Oser and the guy was so nice and let me do it myself.

Then when they started coming in (my mums, my FSILs) I found they put them through the machine anyway! Grrrr.

Even after they are hand cancelled they go through a machine so I wouldn't worry to much about it.

I hand canceled mine. I work for the PO though..so I just did it in the back.

In you see an envelope that someone got you can tell if they are runned thru the machine by looking at bottom of envelope (if there are computer lines on bottom) that means they went thru machine.

i took mine to the post office and they gave me the hand stamp and i canceled them myself- took just a few minutes and they were very nice about it.

you hand cancel them so they dont go in the machines -- because some are so thick with all the papers in them --they can get caught up and get torn and damaged in the machines. and arrive a mess to your guest!!
