I'm getting ready to go bring my invites to the post office. The lady there is a royal biotch and i know she is going to give me an attitude when I tell her I want to hand cancel.
I had no idea what hand cancelling was before LIW, so i just want to make sure that I have this right.
I'm asking to hand cancel them so that they don't go through the machine, right? I'm a total tart and spaz, we all know this, but she is scary and i don't want her to yell at me.

Re: Hand cancelling question
that is why but just curious have you weighed them yet? if they are not super heavy, thick or ornate you might not need to hand cancel. i didn't need to and they were totally fine.

Yes, I had them weighed. I don't know the weight, but only that they are $1 a piece to send.

any way you can go to a different one? i would feel the same way - you're sending out your invites, you shouldn't have a nasty biotch rain on your parade!

Re: Hand cancelling question
Maybe she can let you do the hand canceling? I have heard of some brides doing that, but when I went the woman told me no, she had to do them herself. It is worth a shot.

here, locate a different post office. Make your envelope sending experience a happy one
Aww...I'm sure you're not a 'total tart and spaz'. I don't blame you for being anxious about it though. Even if you have to go a little out of your way, you should try to go to another post office. You don't want to deal with someone so nasty. You should try and go when they first open up too before it gets crowded. Good luck!

Re: Hand cancelling question
Trust me don't feel bad. I went to hand cancel my 55 invites at the post office last week. I got there at 4.45pm, 15 mins before they were closing. I went up to her and placed the envelopes on the table and asked for them to be hand canceld.
Lady looks at me :' Well miss, you can't expect to come in here right when we are about to close.'
I'm thinking in my mind - biatych you still have 15 mins left. And then she proceed to tell me 'Well next time you have to do this, come in earlier!!'
I'm getting married once and she's telling me next time.?
Let them act dumb. It's your money.

Yelley, where are you located? The people in E. Northport were sweeties. If you are close enough, maybe you can go there?

Re: Hand cancelling question
I just sent you FM about this, but I thought I'd post it here so others know..
if your invites are square, and/or have ribbons on them forming a bump on the envelope, they have to be handled manually which is why you are paying more. The machines cannot handle the bumps and are not designed to handle square envelopes. Just in case, ask USPS to make sure, but this is what my dad told me. He originally said to stay away from square, but they were the only ones I liked, so now Im stuck paying $1.34 per envelope...

Re: Hand cancelling question
I would really go to another post office. If she is such a biatch, no telling if she will take your invites, tell you she is going to hand cancel them but DONT. You never know. JMO

Re: Hand cancelling question
i might be posting this too late but what about trying another post office?
I dropped mine off at the one near my job in Garden City because I was in there once and saw them hand cancelling something for another customer and they were nice about it. I was too afraid to try another PO when i knew this one was nice
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Hand cancelling question
Dont know if you went yet but when you go just make sure youre assertive like you know what you want and you know why you want it. Dont go there like in a vulnerable state cause youre already afraid of her.
LMAO I feel like Im talking about how you should act around a pit bull!
