Hand stamp / canceled

Can someone please tell me what this means?? Or how the whole postage things works for invites? Once the invitation is weighed can they give me one stamp for the postage?

When you send a regular letter - the post office runs it thry a machine to put their official stamp on it.

But weddig invites often get stuck in those machines and ruined -- so they handstamp/cancel them by hand.

Yes they can - i got pink 58 cent heart stamps

i think hand cancelled means that the post office doesn't run your invites thru a machine to cancel the stamp on it.

Bring a completely stuffed invitation/envelope, exactly how you'd send it out, to the post office. Let them weigh it and tell you what the postage is....once you do that, just get however many stamps you need. Most wedding invites are 2 oz. which are 58 cent stamps.

I am sorry I am asking these questions...I am postage stupid! Did you have to order the specific stamp amount or they can give it to you there?

hand cancel has nothing to do with postage you buy...it is just so it doesnt go through one of the machines that puts the Post offices official stamp on it, you see it on all the letters you get. The black squiggly line with the circle in the middle with the date that is usually on top of the stamp.

Well mine were $1.64 each to mail out and no they couldn't give me one for that amount so i had to put 4 stamps on each invite. But many wedding invitations are .58 depending on size and weight so if yours is that size you'll get just one .58 cent stamp

IF the post office has the stamps in stock they'll sell them to you right there. You can also order them online if you want if you know how many you'll need already and already had them weighed.

i think hand cancelled means that the post office doesn't run your invites thru a machine to cancel the stamp on it.

That's right.
But they are still run thru a machine for zip code sorting.

So bottom line is, invites still go thru machines, hand cancel or not.
No one received a mangled invite when I sent mine out last year.

Correct, all hand cancelling does is save it from one machine.
Take you invite-completely assembled to the PO and they will tell you the cost for mailing them

well just in case for anybody else who might deal with this. I had to go to the PO more than once bc calligrapher sent me one batch to get out half my invites while she finishes the others. When i went to the PO they had but they gave me what they had left and said they have no more. I asked the lady if they are getting more soon bc i will be back in a day or 2 to send out the rest of my invites and the lady told me 'if you need them thats fine ill let them know today' i went back the next day and they had more than plenty, the lady just let them know and they get it the next day
