Hank Lane

Any one have any prices for hank lane? I love what I see on their website but I feel like it has to be outrageous! They don't have a lot in the way of a bios or video about the bands either so I wouldn't know where to start!! Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Hank Lane

I met with Hank Lane and also with about 10 other bands/companies for my wedding, and here is what I learned…

Hank Lane doesn't have a lot of bios or videos of the bands because they're not 'real' bands - the company puts a group of professional musicians together and sends them out to jobs under a band name. The 'X Band' you see at one event, for example, may have totally different musicians in it the next time you see them. That's really why they don't do showcases, not because 'they're too in-demand.' Their musicians are all talented, but unless you ask for specific musicians/singers by name in your contract, you never know who is going to be assigned to your party. My bridesmaid used a Hank Lank Band at her wedding and they were really good, but I’ve also heard from other people whose experiences with their bands were not what they expected.

In my opinion, Hank Lane is a lot of smoke and mirrors and not worth the money. They may dazzle you with celebrity names, but there are great bands out there in the NY area who play together all the time and are really tight (Times Square Orchestra, Heart & Soul and many others with good reviews on this site) that you can go hear live in person to be sure they’re exactly what you want.

By all means go and meet with Hank Lane as an option if you like what you see, just recognize their hype for what it is…

Actually my friend is using hank Lane for her wedding and she said the same thing as the previous poster said. She said you don't know who you are going to get.

Hank Lane uses all really talented professional musicians, but set band members can and do change. It is perfectly legit in the music business - you just need to be aware of it if you work with them.

Unless you're a hard-core music person and can tell one instrumentalist's playing style from another, you probably won't notice. And since you've never seen the band perform live or on video (hence what they show you - or rather don't show you - when you meet with them) you'd never know anyway!

However, if you really love a particular singer of theirs, be sure to put in the contract that the singer you heard on the recoding is going to be the person who shows up at your wedding. (My friend did that, and she loved her Hank Lane band.)

I'm a musician and a lot of my wedding guests were too, so it was very important to me that I had personally seen a band play and had a good feel for them as a whole before I hired them.

Re: Hank Lane

I specifically asked them about this at Hank Lane. They are set bands, but they have more members than most people use. So the band that I'm using has 16 members, but I'm getting a 10 piece band. The downside is that while without names you technically aren't guaranteed particular people. The upside is that they are a formed band, and you have guaranteed backups in the event that something happens to your band members last minute. The main people (singers) are the same though, barring unseen events.

I had a Hank Lane band at my wedding and they were fantastic. When I first met with them, they seemed to have prices which fit any budget as well. Good luck!

If someone can FM me their quotes I'd appreciate it. We are in the middle of deciding between a DJ and Band.

Re: Hank Lane

My brother use to work for Hank Lane when he was in college as part of their set up crew (he is an audio tech and musician)
He has said to me that the bands are not set in stone but that that is standard for the industry and if you really want a specific musician(s) make sure it is in your contract no matter what company you are using. He said they have very high standards for musicians and so their view is that no matter who you get it will be the same high quality type of musicians.

I 'm pretty sure I was at a wedding where the band was Times Square orchestras, I kinda rememeber that name. They were good too!
