Hank Lane 'Downtown Band' - HELP!!

I know that questions about Hank Lane are very popular on this board, but I feel the need to bring up the topic again! My fiance and I met with them this evening, and while we loved the CD we listened to (of the Downtown Band), we're a bit freaked out that we didn't at least see a video. (We know they don't showcase.) It would be so helpful to us if any of you out there who have used Hank Lane, and in particular have used the Downtown Band, could tell us about your experiences. Were they as good live as they were on the CD (which we were told was recorded live)? Are they fun or at least pleasant to watch, or do they look cranky or bored while they're up there? Are they nice people to deal with? Before your wedding, were you able to speak with an actual band member to ask them questions or tell them things? We know Hank Lane has a great reputation, but this is a hard decision to make without having had someone say, yes, I've used them, they're great. Thank you!!

I am always amazed to hear that anyone books a band WITHOUT seeing them showcase, or on a video. Even if you find people who do like this band, how will you know if the same people are even the ones who show up to do your wedding..if you have no idea what they look like in the first place?? I am confused. ???

Re: Hank Lane 'Downtown Band' - HELP!!

Do a search on Hank Lane on this board and look for Quinn's post on Hank Lane. Who said they have a good reputation. I disagree. They have a very spotty reputation. What they seem to have is name recognition. I went to see this band. There are many question marks. I was told the sales people are on some sort of point system. What am I buying, a used car. Oh no wait a minute. At least the used car salesman will let me test drive the vehicle. Oh I have an idea. Maybe the used car salesman can make a CD of the engine of the car running and then show me a picture of the car. I'm sold. Where do I sign.

P.S. this is a much to important decision to book a band on spec. There seems to be better choices out there and companies that go out of their way to accommodate you the consumer.
