Hanukkah traditions/activities? Any suggestions?

Being this is the first year as a married couple, I would like to start some traditions for the holidays that we can continue once we have children. I have many in mind for Christmas that I have done throughout my life with my family, but don’t have many idea’s for Hanukkah (my husband is Jewish). I am wondering if any of you have any Hanukkah traditions/activities that you did while growing up or do now? If you don’t mind sharing, I would love to hear all of your suggestions. Thanks so much.

My dad is Jewish and my mom is Catholic. I loved celebrating both holidays (especially when Hannakuh ran into Christmas)

As a child we put up both a menorah (sp) and a christmas tree.

Each night of Hannakuh my dad would let me turn the lightbulb to light the menorah (sp), then he would give me my gift. It was usually wrapped in hannakuh wrapping paper. The first night I always got a book about being jewish and what the holidays meant. One year I got the Jewish Kids handbook. It was cute.

I also got a bag of chocolate coins or my Hannakuh gelt and every year I would get a new dradel.

I really loved those times.

yeah, Hanukah Gelt! My sister and I still get $10 each from our grandma! She is cute, thinks we are still kids!

Well, you can learn a few recipies to keep in theme. A couple of traditional Hanukkah foods are potato latkes and brisket. You can also give him a little gift each of the 8 nights. You can get some really beautiful menorah's now..all different kinds. I have a Winnie The Pooh one.

Fortunoff sells some really cute Hanukkah dishes and stuff too now. Serving platters and whatnot. I also saw a bunch of stuff in Home Goods.

I have to say Hanukkah has gotten a lot cooler over the years.
