Happy/Sad/Confused!!

Happy/Sad/Confused!!

Hi girls! So as I posted, I went to visit a RH the other night. I HATED IT! It looked like a hotel you go to in order to cheat on your significant other. Cheesy, chintzy, and cheap looking! Long story short, we went to visit another RH in Queens. I called to see if I needed an appointment, and they said not only do I not, but they were having an open house and I could try the food and everything! Food was excellent, LOVE the guy we talked with for awhile, in the budget, have our date available, and I LOVED the hall. I was walking on air!! Until FH mentioned that he really doesn't want a venue that feels like a catering hall. He's from Seattle, and weddings are a bit different there. I had to tell him that here, we can't afford the kinds of places he'd like to go to. Anyhow...now I'm really disappointed because I thought we found 'the one'. He keeps saying I can have what I want, but I feel guilty. Any advice??

aw, maybe look at a few more just so that you have a basis for comparison AND similar RH quotes to use for negotiations. Maybe once FH sees the prices of the places he sees himself at he will rethink it! dont feel guilty that you fell in love with a place!!! hth!

I had a similar issue with my FH because he is from the mid west and doesn't totally get the LI wedding thing lol. I took him to some really expensive places that had less of a catering feel and them to a few halls that I was interested in.
Once we sat down and did the math he understood where I was coming from and we ended up booking at Crestwood Manor. I like to think its a classy hall! JK

Haha! It's just so obnoxious because I asked him if he has such a problem, why hasn't he looked up places himself?. Ugh! I looked at the Bronx Zoo, Queens Farm Museum, World's Fair, etc. This is SO frustrating! I think part of his issue also is that his parents aren't here to see it.

I believe Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is out of our budget . The place I fell in love with is $50pp for a Saturday afternoon.

Yeah, that place is super expensive, but I thought I'd suggest it bc I wasnt sure of your budget. How many people are you having? I was trying to find something 'different' but its just so expensive, the vineyards wanted like 10,000 just for a site fee...so that idea went out the window ! I've heard of people getting married at Atlantis marine world, but Im not sure that would be your style, it says 50 -125 price range.

Hmmm... have you ever looked at Orchard Hill in Old Westbury Gardens? It's a beautiful grounds, and it's not at all like a catering hall. You can rent a tent for a small fee, and you can have an intimate (depending on how many ppl you are inviting) outdoor wedding there... just a thought.

Thanks for all the good advice! I actually went to a wedding at The Riviera. Not really our style. FH is a vegetarian, and the food wasn't really that great. Though I'm sure they have other vegetarian options. :)

Which place did you liked in Queens?? I'm curious to see if I can suggest something similar that doesn't feel like a catering hall. Someone else mentioned it but I'll mention them too Renascence in Astoria looks very nice doesn't feel like a catering hall and they work with your budget and adjust to whatever you needs may be. My co-worker went to see it and her complaint was that it DOESN'T feel like a catering hall so it might just work.?

I would show him a few more options, ones that he really would love even if they are out of yoru price range so he sees what that cost in NY and also other halls that fit in your budget so maybe he will fall in love with the one you love when he sees your reasoning...or maybe in the new search you both will fall in love with one together...!!!

Ladies, I am pleased to announce (as I did in a new topic post as well) that tonight, we officially booked the place I loved! After some e-mails with very scary price quotes and seeing some places we both weren't crazy about, FH realized that he really liked this place as well! Official date is March 3, 2012!!!
