I was just told that I am not allowed to have candles on the table, because it is a fire hazard. Before we booked the place, he told us we could as long as they were not tapers- votives were ok. Now they say that one or two a table maybe- I was thinking like 5 or 6.
I am very upset- I had all these visions of candlelight.

where is your reception? Did you speak to someone else when you booked? If they told you it was ok then, I would demand it.
we had candles everywhere - votives on all the tables, by the cake, around the cocktail rooms, fireplaces going, and candles in the centerpieces.

it could pose a fire hazard, so some halls might now allow candles. They should have told you that from the beginning though.
I specifically told my hall that I wanted the mantle filled with candles, as well as in the centerpieces and they allowed it. My florist covered the insurance though - maybe you could check with yours?

Each hall is different due to their insurance & fire hazards. Call your hall before you plan on using candles.

Yep, more and more halls are saying this. Check to see the specifics (as everyone else here has mentioned)
Most places are strict on open flames and exposed votives and pillars. Yet tealights and laterns are ok.

You should really speak to them, because that's not right if they told you one thing before you booked and then said another after you booked. If thats the case I would I would demand it, if not rethink where I would have it! If they act like that with the candles, what else could they possibly change on you?
My recption hall includes tapered candles on all the tables, during the cocktail hour and the actual dinner. Try checking with them again.

I will talk to them again- the person that told me no today said I have to talk to so ans so, but he is on vacation. I don't mind using tealights, but she said no to those, too! I wanted to do the candle placecards, and they said absolutly not. That I kind of understand- but I want my candles on the tables at least!

Re: Has anybody heard of this???????
I think after that awful club fire in Rhode Island, a lot of public places are re-examining their policies regarding open flames.
FFIL will have nothing to do with candles - they make him trembling nervous. If one is lit on the table he is at, he will blow it out. He is terrified of them.

Votives should have been okay! I had 5 per table in glass holders for mine, and the hall provided them! Ask them about tealights.

Re: Has anybody heard of this???????
I went to finalize my menu last week at the Sandcastle and they told me the sparklers were not allowed anymore and scratched it off my contract due to the new law. they did not mention whether or not candles were allowed so I am assuming that they are.

Re: Has anybody heard of this???????
I am getting married at the Sand Castle in August. Did they deduct the money of the sparklers.
