Has anyone been to Caribbean in Sept?

Has anyone been to Caribbean in Sept?

We're thinking about going to Nevis for 5 days and then a week cruise to the Southern Caribbean-Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Antigua...
I wonder if the weather will be a problem... anyone?

I've been to the Caribbean the past 2 Septembers, last year to Jamaica and to DR the year before. We saw a little rain on both trips, but it was usually in the night and for a short period of time.

Yes, but I hear that some islands miss it or september is the beginning and usually not bad...

I went in Sept of '98... my mom and I took a chance and went to St. Thomas over Rosh Hashana break.
We wanted to go for 4 days, and ended up staying a WEEK due to Hurricane George. We got trapped on the island, and stuck in a full 24 hours of 120mph winds and then the airport was closed for days b.c the navigation equipment which is in Puerto Rico wasn't working due to the severe damage on PR... it was a nightmare.
BUT once the weather cleared up, while we were still trapped waiting for the equip to get repaired, we had a few extra days of sun which was nice...

Overall based on my experience I will never go to the Caribbean in Sept. again.

Though what happened to me doesn't happen to everyone... I wouldn't want it to happen to ANYONE on their honeymoon. My mom and i saw quite a few couples who's HM was all filled with worry and fear due to the storm, something no newlywed needs!

If you are set on a cruise... why not try a Pacific cruise... like the one LIW gave away... they have some awesome ones that go down the coast of California and go to Mexico.

I guess that is a possibility, but we want to go to Nevis first...

The weather is unpredictable no matter where you go. If you guys decide on the Caribbean you should just purchase travel insurance, so if there's going to be a hurricane you can postpone the trip. Like I said on my earlier post, we saw little rain both times in Sept. The days were sunny and breezy, some of the nights were a little rainy. We had a day or two of some clouds, but that didn't stop us from staying on the beach. Best of luck planning your HM!

Re: Has anyone been to Caribbean in Sept?

I was in mexico the first week of september in 2002, and the weather was amazing!!! not a drop of rain, and sunny skies the whole week! we did, however, miss a huge hurricaine that came 2 weeks after we left! there is always a chance, you cant predict the weather unfortunately! i would be more nervous about cruising though, being that it is hurricaine season, you might not get directly hit by one, but the seas tend to be much rougher during that time! i always cruise in feb cause i dont want the seas to be too rough! IMO i would go to and island skip the cruise!

That is true, can't predict the weather... but i've been doing some reading and the southern carib (where we want to cruise) is the least likely to get hit out of all the islands...
But that is good advice, let me take it up with the FH...

im just paranoid because FH gets seasick super easy!! so 3 cruises and no sickness so far! its true though, i have read that southern carib is not in the hurricaine 'belt', so thati s a good idea!

That is a good reason then... me and the FH can handle some waves
