Has anyone ever been to St. Thomas or St. John? I found 2 really good hotels (1 on each of the islands) and I know you can take a ferry to/from them bc they're so close, but which island would you actually stay on? TIA!

I've been to both while on cruises. I liked St.John better it was a little more remote, and tropical where I found St.Thomas to be more built up and tourist-y

St John has only 2 hotels on the island... the westin and i am blanking on the other REALLY expensive one... turtle bay or something maybee? the island is awesome, gorgeous, you have to travel to the really nice natural beaches and the food is fantastic. my best friend got married at the Westin 5 years ago, I have been ther 2 times. the hotel is very, very nice (most comfy beds ever!!!) and it is much more reasonable than the other one (which at the time I think was like $700/night).
Another thing to consider in St john... you can rent a villa... my friend goes all the time (thats why they got married there) and they have done that and loved it!

I've been to St. Thomas (via cruise). They said that the Marriott was just renovated and is beautiful. Its on the bay. Excellent prices on jewelry there.

i know i love jewelry prices in the islands! fh bought my ering while we were on vacation in aruba and it was must less compared to what it woudl have been here!

I went to St. John in 2002 and I think it's still one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. We stayed on St. John for 10 days and never once went to St. Thomas. The island is 2/3 natural preserve with amazing beaches, hiking and great restaurants. I would recommend renting a car if you're going to stay on the island as there are 2 small main towns, and you can only get to the other one by car. Fair warning, the roads are crazy, really narrow and winding so be careful. I can't really talk to St. Thomas, but I do know that St. John was awesome.

i went to st thomas on a cruise and loooooooved it!!! my co worker just went to st thoomas and stayed at the marriott morningstar and said it was really nice

we'd like to have some night life and action going on and it sounds like st. thomas is the better island for that -- it sounds like st. john shuts down at night, is that true?
ETA: I found a REALLLLLY good deal for 8 nights at the Ritz through american express travel and my mom is giving us a boat load of amex points to use toward the hm so it would only cost us $2000!!!!!!!

I stayed in St. Thomas for a week and took an excursion to a couple of other islands. We took the ferry to St. John's and stayed there one whole day. I would totally say to stay in St. John's, we liked it alot better. Both are beautiful places, but we just thought St. John's was nicer. St. Thomas offers a lot of shopping though, mostly jewelry which is never a bad thing!

the person that stayed at the marriott morningstar and said it was nice - we're thinking of staying there, but then i started getting worried about all the negative reviews on tripadvisor. i just try to take it w/ a grain of salt... any thoughts??

I stayed on st. Thomas for 8 days in 2006. We took the ferry accross one day to st. John. I think it depends on what kind of vacation you want as to where to stay. St. Thomas is more touristy (the jewelry shopping is amazing). St john is more remote. The beaches on st john were the best I've ever been to

ITA. st thomas has a lot of shopping where as St. John is more beachy and on its own. My advice would be stay at the cheaper island because the ferry ride is pretty short so you still could see both islands

I've been to St. Thomas twice on different cruises. The first time I fell in LOVE with it and the second time I brought my parents back and showed them. They liked it so much my dad has been looking into buying a condo there! It's GORGEOUS and amazing! Sorry I'm not help with St. John but I actually heard from someone it's just as breathe taking as St. John. If I knew of any all inclusives in St. Thomas we'd probably be going there for our HM.

St thomas is just like many other islands.....have their nice areas and have some 'really' not so nice areas.
St john is mostly park land. The island is truly beautiful. The town is so nice and has some great restaurants. It is more secluded cause people dont really live there....they take the ferry over for work and then go home......the beaches are ranked some of the best in the world.
Also from there you can take a ferry to the BVI.....I highly suggest going out to Virgin Gorda and going to the Baths.
