Has anyone come across this....

Has anyone come across this....

I received an timeline from my RH last night when I went to pick my menu and one of the items due the week prior to my wedding....gratuities for my Maitre D and bridal attendant! Does anyone else find this odd? What if I am not happy with their performance? What if they base their performance on my tip and they don't feel it's adequate? I think I should say no to this. Opinions??

I agree with you, i'd be afraid that they will base their service on my tip when it is the otherway around!

wait, they want the tip for the maitre'd a week before the wedding ive never heard of that, that is crazy. They told us a suggested tip and discussed that with us, but we were told we tip at the end of the night and thats what we did. That is weird

The tipping thing is weird. I've never heard of it being done in advance! Do you guys also tip your florists and photog, planners, etc?

That's bizarre, my RH doesn't do it that way to my knowledge.

do not pay them prior! TIPS ARE OPTIONAL first of all!!!

you pay them after the fact if you feel fit

Tell them Absolutely NOT!!
Why tip someone for services they have not provided?
Then technically it is not a tip! Its a balance due!

EXACTLY!!!!! how can they ask for something that is not even required, its all up to you so to demand it a week beforehand is insane and i dont think anybody can be forced to pay a tip or be told when they have to pay it by. If you tip a week ahead of time, who knows if the maitre'd will work as hard. I wouldn't do it

I would call the RH and tell them HELL NO, not until the day of!!! Seriously--if I'm playing a wedding gig, I don't expect a tip, and I certainly don't expect a tip the week prior. What makes the maitre'd any more special? That person will definitely base their services on how much you gave him the week before, so I wouldn't do it.

I would call them and NICELY discuss why they want the tips in advance and let them know that you do not feel comfortable doing that and say something like you're sure the service will be above and beyond but you would feel better judging that AFTER the wedding
