Dh has some family there and I saw some houses on the internet that really appeal to me. Although I ve never been there I here its gorgeous- I really want out of ny asap but dh is hanging on becuase of family...

My mom just bought a house in Phoenix. She is looking for a job- she works in a home for the disabled. I'm not sure what the job market is like. My brother went for a last summer and said it was INSUFFERABLY HOT, but not humid. He's used to city life and wasn't thrilled with it, but I think he will get used to it. I will probably be going in January to see my mom's house, so I'll post about it.

I think that is becoming more popular- and its close to Vegas and Cali ( well driving distance) and I think phoenix is a ' young city'

My FW moved out to AZ for a few years before coming back and meeting me.
She liked it there. But is VERY HOT. It gets so hot there during the summer... that people simply do not leave the house for days on end during the summer.
Its THAT bad.

My MOH bought a house and moved there with her boyfriend .
Anyway...after a year living there, she told me that she didn't make any new friends and that everyone is old....
But don't go by her...she can be anti-social and she works in an assisted living community.....duh!!!!
I'm sure it's beautiful...but I love the ocean...

i love northern arizona. i would never never move to phoenix, but places like flagstaff and prescott are at 5000+ feet and get tons of snow and colder weather. in flagstaff you are surrounded by mountains and pine forest, it's absolutely gorgeous. i think dh and i will eventually move there...

I lived in Phoenix for a year. If the weather was the same in August as it is at this time of year, it would be perfect! The summers are really hot, but it is dry and you do get used to it to a certain extent. I did go out of the house every day, but tried not to stay outside between 12 and 3 if possible in July and August (and the beginning of September.) EVERYTHING is air conditioned there and in the summer people dress much more casually for work, because of the heat. When you are outside, it is that sort of heat that you don't cae what you look like, you are wearing shorts and sleeveless tops. It's just too hot to be vain.
The Phoenix metro area is rapidly developing, it is now the 6th largest city in the US, according to something I read in the NY Times. But, think of it as a mini LA in terms of traffic. Very little public transportation, so you have to drive everywhere and the city is very spread out.
I prefer Northern Arizona for the weather, but I do like Tuscon better than Phoenix.

My moved moved to Tucson about 10 years ago and LOVES it! She claims that you do indeed get used to the heat...it's a 'dry heat', you know?!?!?
Anyway, the houses there are really beautiful, better quality of life, etc...I would certainly consider it.

I went to Scottsdale a couple of years ago and I thought it was beautiful but very hot. It feels like you are stuck in a oven type hot. The only other thing that freaked me out about Arizona is all the snakes and weird critters! While I was there I was convinced that I was either going to be bit by a rattlesnake or some poisonous spider or stung by a scorpion! But that is just the way I am I think that there are cobra's running wild somewhere on long Island

My aunt and grandmother live in PHX. I've been there many times, different times of the year and yes if hot weather is not your thing then I would say no don't do it, It's as close to being on the surface of the sun as you can get. But being able to go for a swim on Christmas day is rather nice...lol
FH loves it there, but he hasnt been there during the hottest part of the year, so this year we are going in late July early Aug so he can see for himself. His biggest issue is he loves the ocean and fishing so that is the biggest drawback to moving there but we are really thinking about it.
Traffic is tough there, since the city has grown faster than it's infastructure, it seems like the cost of living is much less, but you also have to remember you wont be making NYC money there either.
I actually am reminded of Long Island when I am in PHX since except for downtown, it's mostly residental and lots of strip malls and shopping centers..
I second the thought it is one of the biggest growing cities right now.
Just my two cents..hope it helps..

If we were to move it would probably be tuscon - I really have to visit it to see if its somewhere I would live, I do however love hot weather and I suffer from allergies so that would be a bonus for me.
