Re: Has anyone eaten at PassionFish in Woodbury?
My parents, fiance, and I dined at Passion Fish over Labor Day weekend. We decided to have dinner there since we had just checked out the Woodlands while reception hall hunting. The BM at the Woodlands told us that they did not do food tastings. To experience the food and the service, she recommended that we eat at Passion Fish...she told us it was a 'destination restaurant' The BM also assured us that guests of Passion Fish are escorted through a separate entrance so they won't intermingle with the wedding guests in the foyer.
Upon arriving at the Woodlands on a Friday evening during a wedding, we were somewhat guided to the separate entrance. We were supposed to take the elevator to the second floor where Passion Fish is located. However, the elevator was broken, so we had to walk past the ballroom, through the foyer, and up the stairs to get to Passion Fish. There I was...in my jeans, intermingling with people in evening attire!
When we were seated in the restaurant, there were only 3 other tables. We were provided with menus and immediately asked what we wanted to drink. We weren't sure yet and asked for a bit more time so we could pair our wine and food. 15 minutes later the waitress came back. At that point, my fiance mentioned that we were there to taste the food since we were considering having our wedding at the Woodlands.
We ordered 2 appetizers (crab cake and wild mushroom pizza) and 2 salads (warm pear with gorgonzola cheese). All 4 dishes were brought to the table at the same time! The waitress never even offered to bring the appetizers before the salads. The bottle of wine we ordered was out of stock so the waitress brought a cheaper bottle at the suggestion of her manager.
The appetizers and salads were delicious and the presentation was very nice.
For our entrees, we ordered a shrimp dish, chicken dish, wood-grilled ny strip steak, and the special prosciutto wrapped filet mignon.
The shrimp was ok, nothing special.
The chicken was moist, but bland.
The wood-grilled ny strip steak was supposed to be medium rare and it came out well done and tasteless.
The waitress brought the wrong filet mignon. She brought the regular filet mignon which is served on top of lobster mashed potatoes. My fiance sent the filet mignon back since it wasn't what he ordered and he doesn't eat lobster. The waitress was apologetic. About 20 minutes later, the correct filet mignon was served to my fiance. However....it was the SAME piece of meat! By that time, the steak had dried out and was horrible! To add to that, it had the flavor of the lobster on it! No one ever bothered to ask if he was allergic to shell fish!!!!!!! Thank God, he's not, but I was pretty upset!
We asked the waitress to wrap up our leftover pizza appetizer. She brought the wrapped up package out to us and told us that the chef made us a new pizza to make up for the filet mignon. The filet mignon was $30, so that didn't exactly make up for what happened, but it was a nice gesture...so we thought. The next day, we decided to re-heat the leftover pizza and discovered that it was not a new pizza or our leftovers. It looked like leftovers from the kitchen help as it wasn't even shaped like the pizza they served us!!!!!!
Nevertheless, this experience destroyed our hopes of having a wedding at the Woodlands. I've heard that the food and service are great there, but I didn't want to take the chance after our experience. The staff knew we were there for a tasting and they didn't even step up their service to convince us to book.
On our way out, we ran into a couple that was dining there. They were planning their son's rehearsal dinner at Passion Fish. There could be another major party there the day of your wedding and they advertise 1 wedding at a time!
This was just our experience, so I hope my review doesn't offend anyone. If nothing else, you should use my experience to set high expectations for your affair.
