I almost got engaged to someone after 2 years of dating...but he just wasn't right for me and I broke it off before we made it official.

Same with me. We were planning on getting married, even had a date and place picked, but it was before we were 'officially' engaged.
It was very, very hard, but for the best.

I dated a guy for 3 years in college and he was miserable to me. I almost said yes (out of stupidity) when he asked me to marry him. I figured that my reluctance to say yes was a sign and I made a clean break.

yep...I was engaged to the guy I dated in H.S. I guess he decided he was too young/wanted to leave NY. In hindsight though, it was DEFINATELY FOR THE BEST

I was engaged about 10 yrs ago for about 1 yr. We were young, it was difficult, but it was certainly for the best.

yup, I was engaded when I was 25, I decided to call it off about 8 weeks before the wedding. The invitations were in my car addressed, stuffed, stamped & ready to go.
It was really hard to get through, but I've never regretted breaking it off.

I guess you can say I did. I was engaged when I was about 21 or 22. My boyfriend at the time treated me like crap, and only a few months before he proposed, he cheated on me. So I wasn't really in the 'marriage' mood. But I said 'Yes,' at first, took the ring, but a week later, I gave the ring back and broke it off. We stayed together almost another full year before I finally was able to shake loose. It was DEFINITELY for the best.

i haven't - but always respected people who did call it off...it takes a strong person to follow their heart rather than succumb to pressure of $$ a, vendors and family....i've always believed that its better to cut it off in the beginning than to convince youself that it will get better...plus, then it means it wasn't meant to be but the right person is out there...

in between my fh now i was engaged for about 8 months and realized that my fh now was the one i wanted to marry and not the other guy

I was engaged for 5 years, however, it wasn't really a 'broken' engagement. He passed away.

Jodi,

I'm so sorry you had to experience that. It must have been very difficult for you. My FH's friend also lost his fiance several years ago. He's married now and very happy, but it was a terrible time in his life.

It was VERY difficult at the time. He got very sick and eventually was in a vegetable state so it was really for the best. It wasn't how he would have wanted to live. He has been gone almost 7 years now. I have always said he was one of my many angels who have watched over me all these years and sent me my angel (FH) here on earth to take care of me!

Thanks Swags,

As I said my angel has always watched out for me. Since he passed away I have had brain surgery & been hit by a car as a pedestrian and I am here to talk about it and then found my FH online while home in a cast. Because of all that I will always believe in guardian angels cause I CERTAINLY have at least one!!!!!
