Has anyone ever altered the neckline of your dress?
I am thinking of lowering it a bit into a u shape. Would this be too much a risk. with the dress? Thanks.

I am altering it into a sweet heart neckline. I am getting my bustle done plus alterations to the neckline for a reasonable price from Phyllis .(Gownfind.com)

Yes! big time!!! There are pics in my community album of my first dress tryon and then my dress fitting. I wanted halter straps and a sweetheart neckline. The dress I fell in love with was a straight across strapless dress, they were able to make a completely new neckline and add my halter straps.

I've heard of people doing things like that a lot, but it does depend on the style of the dress. I considered doing it to the one I'm getting but because of the way the fabric is gathered on the top is wasn't really possible. Just ask the place where you're getting the dress if either the designer could make it that way or if they can't, if the alterations people can.

ETA: Jasmine dresses are good, they will do anything you want to make the dress the way you want it.

BE CAREFUL!! I bought a gown that was strapless with a slight dip in the middle, and was told I could make it into a sweetheart. I went back, EIGHT months later (I bought the gown early), just to be sure. I had a different consultant and she told me I absolutely could NOT change the neckline! She said the construction of the top needs to be different to be able to make it a full sweetheart. I had to buy a whole new gown to get the sweetheart, and now it's being constructed differently to accomodate the different neckline. It's not coming going to be ready until 7 weeks before the wedding!
Please be SURE you can change the neckline before you buy the dress, if you have your heart set on it, like I did.....

I changed it from a regular strapless to a sweetheart neckline. I was nervous about it, but it came out great.
