Forgot to add: We are definitely not trying to get pregnant in the forseeable future, and I have been on Depo Provera for 5 years. So the pregnancy thing isn't an issue.

The DP is actually a pretty potent hormone... have you considered switching to a pill with a lower dose - that might help with your skin.

For those of you who mentioned stomach problems on Accutane...

it is very important to take with food as it is prescribed on the packaging. If you don't you could get stomach problems because it will destroy your stomach lining if taken without food.

I never went on it after many bouts with acne - my dr wanted me to but I was afraid. It does work wonders for many people....instead I just used topicals, Retin A and antibiotics. I also changed my diet, and exercise more. I still get pimples but its not nearly as bad. Must be because I am also in my early 30s now. I noticed certain foods I eat aggravate it - like milk, ice cream, cream cheese and certain white breads and anything with iodine and carrageenan in it. I notice green and red veggies are the best for my skin and lots of water. Oh and the BC pill helped me out alot - probably balanced my hormones.

My DH was on accutane in the late 80s when it first came out and caused a severe bleeding ulcer - he was only 17 and was hospitalized and almost died. The doctors said the cause was probably accutane - but they could never prove it. This was before Accutane was regularly monitored like it is now and dosages were higher....

Before I was on Accutane I noticed that processed white foods caused me to break out badly... I think that is very common.

My husband was on it, and it worked really well for him. The only side effect he really had was the terrible chapped lips.
