Has anyone ever been to a wedding in **UPDATE AT BOTTOM**
North Carolina (specifically the Outer Banks)???
I have a) no idea what to wear (the website says 'remember to get a pedicure!' which was weird to me)
and
b) no idea how much $$ to give (it's FH's friend) b/c we're spending like $1K to get down there
HELP!

I would say dress 'beachy' and more casual than you would in NY.
As for the gift, give what you can! I can tell you that people in other places other than NY give waaaaay less for weddings. (I am from Ohio and live in Florida).

We went to one in South Carolina...
the pedicure thing is weird...
but its up to you how much to give... if they are a good friend than give what you would give if it were a NY wedding... if you are spending a lot of money on hotel and flights/gas or whatever then you can knock a couple of bucks off... but thats totally up to you

I haveeeeeeeeeeeee Loved it so much that was a thought when FH & I got engaged! The ceremony sounds ike it will be on the beach ( ie: pedicure). I would wear a light, flowy sundress with a shrug Please take pictures and share! I <3 The Outer Banks!!

Is the wedding actually on the beach? The pedicure thing is probably b/c you'll be on sand and will want to take your shoes off? That's what I would guess.
As far as a gift goes - definitely less than you would give here. Maybe $150-$175?

The pedicure thing probably means that they will have some portion on the beach (especially if it is in the outerbanks)...Just a cute way to put it I guess
I would say wear a nice summer dress, and you will be fine. Def. no need to get decked out like here.
As for the gift, we gave what we always give to friends. We figured when we got married (which now we are), they would just give the same back anyway. We have friends all over the country since we both went away to school, so we have a set amount we give for everyone's wedding we attend (unless they are Best Friends, or we are in the BP)
HTH!

Re: Has anyone ever been to a wedding in
we went to one in raleigh a few months ago... it was A LOT different - there was like a 'cocktail hour' setup.... but that was the whole wedding! I was soooo confused! haha We wound up just getting them a gift certificate for a couples massage at a spa near there. A lot of non NY'ers dont give money, and i had went to the spa for waxing and saw that i thought it was a cute idea! I think it was like $150ish? i know thats not a lot but like you said we spent a lot of money to get down there and to stay at the hotel and stuff and i think thats more normal for that kinda wedding! JMO. oh, and i wore a purple dress i think...

thats how the SC one we went to was too... the groom grew up with Shaun and he is Vietnamese and German and his wife was from SC so the food was a crazy awesome mix...

Honestly, I would go with a blank check and fill it out in the bathroom or something when I got there. Then make the decision on what to give.

I don't know but FH has been to one in Indiana and it was like a ho-down. It was in a hall but you served yourself barbeque food and people wore jeans, flip-flops and sneakers to the place meanwhile the bride was in like a princess gown

both my bosses had a double wedding there.. they rented 2 huge houses and got married right on the beach with just their immediate family and close friends.. i heard it was beautiful and I was able to see it on the computer so they set it up for us to see since I had to work and hold the fort down.. it was soo nice!:)

My co-worker is from down there....she thinks the pedicure comment means you'll be on a beach or on the grass barefoot.
I think any kind of dress you might wear to a non-black tie summer wedding would be fine!

I went to a wedding in Oklahoma, and it was Bizzarre!!! Cocktail hour consisted of wheat thins and cheese...and Uncrustables (yes, the PB&J Sandwiches) Beer was free, but soda's were $1.00, and came right from the bottle. However, it was alot of fun!

Ok - I went back on the website and this is what it says for 'Attire:'
Attire I call our wedding style 'Barefoot Optional'. The wedding party and many guests will be wearing sandals and going barefoot for the ceremony.
A Helpful Hint... This doesn't mean casual dress it just means shoes aren't necessary. :)
Him: Dress pants with a button-down or polo shirt. Her: A pretty dress-- and don’t forget a pedicure!
Is that weird, or is it just me???

lol sounds like this one. They had fried chicken, some beef dish he said and mashed potatoes in huge pots and you helped yourself. They also had to pay for drinks too.

LOL it's a little weird, but I think they just want to be sure people don't come in looking like Hobos.
