Has anyone ever gotten anything they know was a re-gift?
I got something last year from someone. It was a shirt in a size XS which I am not. I probably couldn't have worn that size since I was a child. It had no tags and it was the size of the person who gave it to me. I threw it out when I got home.

Yes! The funniest thing was I gave my aunt a pocketbook for Christmas 1996 (I have a picture) And she gave it back to me for my birthday in September 2001. Can you imagine??

OOOO YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY FH GRANDMA. Lets see. One year I got an old pocket book that was hers. She even left the pictures in it. One year I bought her a snowman nicknack and she gave it my FSIL as a gift. I went to her house and I was like aww how cute did ure grandma give this to you? she said ya howd u know I said cause I gave it to her. I mean if u are gonna regift why regift to someone who knows the person who gave it to you. She does this with everything. So now we go to things remembered find the cheapest thing like a picture frame and have it engraved merry christmas grandma and grandpa.

I'm giving a re-gift this year, yes I am and I don't care!!
Last year FH and I got a jar of peppers (can you say WTF?) with the price tag still on it and that person told us they didn't spend that price (so ya got it on sale, marked down from $14.99. Thanks for your generosity )
This year that person is getting a lovely picture frame/clock that my mother gave me that totally doesn't go with my apartment (I hate it). As it turns out, it goes with this person's decor. More or less...
I don't mean to be petty but I agonize over the gifts I give to people. It is very important to me that they like them, big or small, but when I don't see the effort reciprocated, it turns me off.

Maybe you should just get her something you want if she's gonna re-gift it to you eventually!!! LOL!! That's too funny that she left pictures in the used purse!

I usually don't give regifts, but.... We got a gift that is 'very nice', but would never use. I have a friend how would love it and use it. They just moved into a new house so I'm going to give it to her as part of her housewarming.
I'm thinking of it as more of a bonus to her gift...

I am not a big fan of re-gifting but in all honesty I would rather my gift be passed along to someone that can use/enjoy it then thrown away. That would be a waste of money.
But I do think some discretion and common sense should be involved - nothing used, really old, or to someone the original gifter will know about (feelings get hurt).
Anyways, I was in a store once and this lady was flipping out at the store clerk about how wrong it is to regift something blah blah blah I spent my money on the gift blah blah blah. I am talking about 10 - 15 minutes of her ranting at this poor guy.
Then she turns around to me to conitinue her little tyrade but she shut up when I said, 'but it's theirs now, they can do what they want with it. would you rather they throw it away? that would be a waste of your money too.'

Yep... we got a few wedding gifts that were clearly not our taste at all, and that smelled like they spent a few years in a basement!
But that's OK... we're grateful anyway, right? It's the thought that counts?!

Personally I haven't BUT my grandparents renewed their wedding vows for their 50th, complete with reception. My cousin re-gifted a wedding gift which was a beautiful crystal bowl but the wedding card was still in the box! MAJOR faux pah (sp), my grandmother didn't speak to him for months.

I got one regift for my shower. The person who gave it to me was out of work at the time (and her husband was out of work too). I was glad that she attended my shower and was not offended that my gift was 'second hand', given her situation.

If the gift was not used, then I wouldn't mind a regift, if it was used, then I would. Even though the person did not buy a new gift, they never benefited from a prior gift if they gave it away so I figure it is the same, as long as the gift giver, is giving it becasue they think the recipient would like it.

For my bridal shower, DH's lovely aunt gave us a crystal vase... when I took it out of the box to show everyone, i held it up to the light and you could see all these gross fingerprints... totally a re-gift.
My MIL joked with me about my baby shower (she doesn't like this woman) and said... I wonder what she's going to get you for your baby shower, seeing how she's never had a baby, how is she going to re-gift somehting...
