a Vermont Teddy Bear? They are a little pricey and I am choosing between either that or a Build-A-Bear one. (I know it sounds all kiddie - but we always do sweet little things for V-day). What are your opinions is spending the extra money worth it quality wise?
ETA: I've given a Build-A-Bear Teddy before and the fur tends to come out a bit - does the same thing happen with the Vermont Teddy Bears?

i never had a vermont bear, but i've given and received build-a-bears and i LOVE them.
i personally can't see spending $80.00 on something that you can get for $40.00.
sure the quality may be different...but you have to ask yourself: 'how important is it to me to have a good quality teddy bear??'

I received a Vermont teddy bear a few years ago...very nice presentation. Came with a little box of chocolates and air holes in the box. I'm assuming this is for FH? If so...go with the Vermont bear...they aren't very 'cuddly', but they are sturdy. Since I'm sure he will display it somewhere. My sister and I got one for my brother when he graduated law school...he still has it...almost 10 years later.

vermont teddy bear people are very nice! and helpful I have both given and received a vermont bear I made up a CLOWN bear for my mom once for valentines day b/c she collects them they sent it w/a box of chocolates, nice box and a card

I have both Got the Vermont Bear for Valentines with Jim our first year.
It's dusty and sits in a box somwhere.. very stiff. Wasn't huggable and the fur was 'alright'. You could see it was well made and specific for the occasion.
My build-a-bear Bunny (later Vday) is soft and cuddly and slept in bed for months before I had to pack it up to move. I've seen no problems with the fur. They are rather cookie cutter, no matter HOW you dress it up but you can change it for seasons!
Both are good bears in my mind. I'd be fine giving either as a presents.
Personally I've GIVEN Build A Bears as presents several times. I have NOT given a Vermont bear (too much effort). I like that Build A bear I can walk in.. build, dress and ship from there to it's final destination. It's more personal.

DH received a Vermont Teady bear from his sister once. It is very cute with a race drivers uniform and his name stitched on it. Very good quality but IMHO to expensive for a bear.

They are both adorable but how often is FH going 'play' with the bear? Its not like the bear has to take constant abuse, right? My vote is for the Build-A-Bear, plus you will be picking it out and making it with love....

Steve sent me the Mama's boy one for Valentines Day last year! I also have a Build-abear that our niece gave Damien when he was born.
The Build-a-bears are more cuddly and the Vermont are more for show. If it is for a man I would go with the Vermont Teddy Bear

Thanks girls! I think I am going to get the Vermont Teddy bear - i'm not buying it to be cuddling - its more so as a momento because he is getting sworn into teh NY bar soon.
