Has anyone ever switch from oil to gas?

my parents just did. It cost few a few thousand - 3-4000, I think.

They switched because they needed a new oil burner and the inground oil tank didn't have much life left in it, so staying with oil was going to cost them significantly anyway.

we did last year and it was a GREAT move for us!! We too needed a new burner and hot water heater. I contacted Key Span and they had a special going on...not sure if its still the same now...,.where we got a new burner and hot water heater for signing up with them. They brought the pipe from the street to the house and our plumber brought the pipe into the house and did the coversion for us. We did need a sleeve for the chimney...damn Ton of Islip and thier regulations!! The whole job was less than $5k, incuding hooking up out gas dryer.

We looked into switching and opted not to. It would have been a waste for us basically. Our tank was in great condition and our burner was replaced not too long ago by the previous owner.

We were quoted that changing to gas would have cost us around $5,000 and we had to get the chimney lined, which when we heard that we didn't even bother getting that priced!

But we did change from steam heat over to hot water heat- where we added a hot water heater to our boiler and a converter to pump the water into baseboards that we installed around the house. We were able to get rid of the huge clunker radiators that were in EVERY room, and all the steam pipes that cluttered up the basement. By doing this we saved about $3,000.
