Has anyone ever transfered their doctors records from one doctors office to another?
Did you have to pay for this?

If your other dr. requests it and it goes directly to them, usually not. If you are picking them up and taking them, then yes. You will have to sign a consent to send them to another dr.
At least this is how it was at the office I used to work at.

Do they send your exact file or copies of your file to the doctor? I gave them a consent from the new doctor but said i would pick them up and they want to charge me 75 cents a page

They send copies, they cannot send the originals, it is a law.
If they send them directly to your new doc and you never have your hands on them, they may not charge you. You might have to have your new dr's office request it.

Due TO HIPPAA laws which came into effect, the doctor's office does have the right to charge for sending records to another doctor.
It all depends on your doctor, but from what I have seen most don't charge.
What you will have to do is sign a release form saying that they can release the records to another doctor. Again depending on the doctor you might have to go in an sign for them or you may be lucky and you can fax the release to them.
Hope this helps.

Wow, I have changed docs a couple of times and was never charged! Charging you for your own records -- is that allowed?

It is allowed but it has to be a reasonable amount for time spent making the copies.
I would think most doctors would do this at no charge as a courtesy though.
