I did when I was in high school. Did nothing for me acne-wise, but dried my skin out so much it was flaking off. Made it nearly impossible to wear makeup because of the dryness and flaking.

I used a retin-a treatment before the wedding
called Obagi. At 1st I broke out more then it cleared my skin up. You will have peeling & flaking.

Have you used any other medication that works well?

My skin has gotten better, but before the wedding my dermatologist put me on Duac, which is a new, dual-action prescription. I thought it worked really well. Before the wedding I also got chemical peels every 2 weeks by the dermatologist, which also really helped. My skin looked great for the wedding. My doctor is great, if you need a recommendation in Suffolk.

I have used virtually everything - no results from Retin-A. I use Differin now, and it is better.

Like my dermatologist says 'we can control the problem, but we can't cure it' - unfortunately zits will always be a reality for me, but at least I can make them a little smaller and less apparent with medicine.

I used Retina-A for a while. It definately showed a difference in my skin, but it did DRY the heck out of my skin, and I peeled a ton!

I have problem areas on my back and chest as well. Well, the doctor said I could put the cream there too. Do you know how hard it is to put cream on your own back! Well, I guess I put it on too thick and I severely burnt the crap out of the skin on my back! It was so painful that I never used it again!

I am still on the lookout for anything that might work! So if you come accross anything please help!

The same thing happened to me. I hardly ever use it any more. I find that good old fashioned white toothpaste works bests for tackling a zit

I thought the Duac was the best I have ever tried. Differin didn't work for me.

So.....this is prescription right, Is it a pill, wash, or cream? Will it affect Birth Control in any way?

Re: Has anyone ever used Retin-A acne medication?

I've been on Retin-A for almost 10 years now. The thing about Retin-A is the longer you use it, the better your skin will get. And you can get worse before you get better. It takes a while to start to work, but then at least for me, it works very well. I still break-out occasionally, but not bad. I use it every night and then in the morning I wash my face and use a sulfur-based lotion after I wash it. The combination of all of it has really helped me.

Yes, with Retin-A you HAVE to be REALLY careful in the sun. I never go out without at least 30 on my face, and even then, I usually cover up with a towel on my head after a little while of laying on the beach.

However, one of the great things about Retin-A for the future is that it really does slow the appearance of aging. My dermotologist has told me that they've done studies on people who have used it for extended periods of time and these people look much younger than they really are. So, for me, because I've been on it so long, I'll keep with it.

Talk to your doctor though- it's not for everyone and there are options.

Currently, my derm has me on Azelex. MUCH less drying and no sun sensitivity. I really hated Retin-A.... it tore my face up.

My dermotologist put me on Adoxa it is a pill. I took it before my wedding, it worked wonderful, except it effected the potency of my birth control pill, and I spotted all month. I would rather have the acne than the spotting and chance of pregnancy.

I just need to find something that won't screw up the rest of my body, yet clear up my acne!

I had used it and did not get any results. I had to be put on accutane.
