has anyone gone to Greece??? need some travel advice
hi everyone!
we're thinking of going to Greece for our honeymoon and i'm trying to figure out what's the best way to spend our 3-week stay. we're already going to Crete for 10-days (it's included in our RH), thinking of spending 4D in Santorini and the rest in Athens.
i've allocated those locations just because... those are the only ones that i know of. the more i read about the country, the more confused i am because they have so many islands! i bet i'm overlooking some must-see places...
any suggestions? any Greek ladies out there that know their country???
TIA!!!

I am going to give you some advice. We are going on a cruise and stopping there, but we are VERY worried about it.
Make sure you speak to a travel agent and look into EXACTLY what you cn expect as far as the economy and all the riots and striking that is happening.
We are not so worried since we are going to Mykanos and tourist areas. We are also going on a ship so we dont have to worry about transportation. (unless we do excursions)
But be very careful. I would HATE for your honeymoon to be ruined because the week you go there is a national strike (like there is today).

We are going to Greece in August (DH is half Greek), and we're not too concerned about it. They strike and protest very often there, so it's not unusual. What's the worst thing that can happen, you get stuck there for longer? LOL...if I can only be so lucky!

I went to Greece after college - my suggestion would be not to spend too much time in Athens. It's definitely worth visiting for 3 or 4 days, but i wouldn't do anything longer. i'd use the rest of the time to island hop.

The only reason I mentioned is that this is a national time of crisis, rather than the normal 'strike against the establishment' kind of stuff.
With their economy in crisis, real crisis, I just would be wary if you are flying in and dependant on greek services (airport, public trans, cabs, power...)
Today is a national power strike and its just getting worse with the massiive public sector cuts they are forced to make to save the Greece economy.

We went to Greece for our honeymoon as part of our European Cruise. We went to Mykonos, Athen's, Rhodes and Santorini. IMO, you only need like 2 days max in Athen's. By far, our favorite place was Santorini!! Mykonos was nice too, but Oia Santorini was just so romantic!! We also really loved Rhodes, but would like to go back to Santorini for our 1 year anniversary!
