HAs anyone had a 'time out' with the FI's (I'm not breaking up with FI just curious)

I was just wondering if anyone else did this....

About 4 or 5 years ago (FI and I had been dating for about 4 months or so), I broke up with FI. We were apart for over 6 months, didn't speak to eachother, weren't involved in eachother's lives. (I needed to 'find myself' and he scared me off a bit because he said he loved me very early on.)

One day I gave him a call, and we've been inseperable ever since.

Just wondering if anyone else ever had a time out over the course of your relationship, because most 'time outs' lead to permanent time out, so I feel like we beat the odds so to speak.

Well, I am glad you beat the 'odds' We actually NEVER had even an inkling of wanting a 'break', but I think that some people do need it in order to sort things out.

We broke up for 4 months in 2000 and a month and a half in 2001. We have been together six years and I think that when we got back together after each break up, the communication was much better between us.

yup...for only about a month a few years ago...i needed it..and we got back together and were engaged 7 months later

My husband and I have been together 10 1/2 years.

Throughout this, we have had our challenges.

We had a 'big' breakup a few years back for 7 months.

To be honest yes. And I hesitate to say 'many times'. But we've been together for seven years, and admittedly have had several rough patches over the years. I will say, I don't think any lasted for more than two months.

Kinda sorta. FH and I met when we were 18 and I was dating his best friend. To make an entirely too long story short, I wound up breaking up with my boyfriend and was with FH for a few weeks. Things just didn't work out for us, although that is a great simplification of everything that transpired. Four years later, we 'met' again, and have been together ever since. It will be 4 years on 1/1/04. We never would have worked out for the long haul back then, so we're convinced that it was meant to be. FH says it was fate...written in the stars.

FH and I have been together for almost 11 years so YES we have had two time outs lasting the most 6 months.

after 3 months of dating i had a freak out because i have committment issues (or should i say had) and we were 'on a break' for 1 week. I also happened to be on a cruise during that week, so we wouldnt' have seen each other anyway....and we couldnt' speak because i was away, but we had a big talk before and after the cruise. since then, i realized how special tom is and we've been together ever since!!

No!
We started dating in high school. After about 3 months and we started to get serious he got scared and we were going to take a break. It lasted about 1 hour! We never thought about a break since then, and now it has been almost 7 years!

Yes, we did.
We were dating about 2.5 years, and he had some commitment issues. We were apart about 6 months. We both dated other people. He saw the light and came back!
I don't count the time apart. When people ask how long we've been together, I say 6 years.

We never did we met July 1999 and really have been together ever since. But I think because we met when I was still in college (he had just graduated) we got some time apart for 1.5 years and therefore really appreciated one another and also got to know each other really well as we would talk ALOT.

I think in alot of cases is soo healthy when you realize you need some space to figure things out and its so romantic when you realize you had what you needed all along!!

Yep. DH was engaged right before I met him. He was never ready to get engaged but he was pushed into it and it ended up not working out (lucky for me:):). Anyway, we met and started seriously dating just a few months after that. We dated for 2 years and his father died. After that happened he kind of freaked and broke up with me (knowing he was doing the wrong thing but feeling like he had to - his words). We were apart for 5 months (in which I was a wreck!!). Not ever thinking we were getting back together, he called 5 months later .

This was the BEST thing that could have happened for us (even though it made me feel TERRIBLE). I became stronger for it and he realized that he let go of the best thing in his life and he came back to me knowing we would be together forever!!!!!

FH was my first boyfriend..We dated for 3 yrs and broke up for 6 years. And we both dated other people in that time. Even though I was in a crappy relationship during that time, I'm so glad things happened they way they did. b/c we learned soooo much about ourselves and adult relationships. We have such an awesome relationship now

We met in June of 98 and have been together ever since. We just clicked. Breaking up or taking a break has never been an issue for us.

We met after college, I was a year out of college and he was 2 years out of college. I had just gotten back from Europe and was starting Grad school that summer. It was the last thing on my mind, but I think we were both ready to meet.

We met in May of 95. I was 14 and it was a weak before his 16th birthday. We were together all the way up till Oct. of 2000. In sept (sept. 11th) he had to be rushed to the hospital and have parts of his lung removed. It was so tramatic for the both of us. When he came home from the hospital he was heavy medicated. I said something that was meant to be A JOKE and I said it laughing and giving him a kiss on the cheak and he threw me out of his house and didnt talk to me for two months. It was honestly the worst thing ever. I was so depressed I lost 30 punds cause I couldnt eat. I wouldnt go out Id come home from work and go straight to bed. On Dec. 26 2000 He beeped (beeper whats that) me and I was a sleep and im so happy I was cause when I woke up 2 hours later and I called him back and he was like Im so happy you called I thought you hated me. I kept him hanging on granted only for 2 hours but hey. He came over and told me how much he hated himself for breaking up with me and doing what he did but he loves me and he knows for sure he loves me. He said by the end of next year we will be engaged I PROMISE! Dec. 22 2001 he put the ring on my finger.

Nope... I moved to Chicago for my first job out of undergrad and I met him 3 months later! FH and I have been going strong since Oct 1999.

yes. We first met in 1996, I left for college soon after. finally started dating X-mas 1998. We took 2 breaks. once in 2001, once in 2002. Sometimes you need that time apart.

Even lately I have been feeling out of it, between holidays, money, etc. But we are trying to keep the communication open
