It has been getting worse since yesterday. I am waiting for the oil company to call me back. I felt light headed a while ago so I shut the thermostat and opened the windows. I wonder why this is happening. Any ideas?

you could be having a puffback...you should call the oil company back again and tell them that the oil smell is overwhelming and that you opened windows....
you could have a leak your burner may just need a cleaning

I agree .. sounds liked a leak. Even if it's small, it can really stink up the place.

Our house has a faint smell of oil that you can tell when you walk through the front door, I though maybe b/c we have just been starting to use the heat for the first time, even before we moved it the house was vacant for months. But then I notice the guage glass was cracked and the oil smell could be coming straight from the tank. I still haven't replaced it but check to see that there is no open spots on the top of your tank. Hope that helps a little.

You most likely have a puffback and I would try to get that checked out asap. We had a puffback in my parents house this past year and it could be potentially be dangerous bc of carbon monoxide. Do you have a carbon monoxide detector?
I don't want to alarm you but it could be bad! Not a big thing to fix though just call your oil company and stress that you have been smelling oil and feeling dizzy. Then they will listen to you!!
