The wedding i was in last night had a 'no shots policy' implemented so there were no shots. The wedding im in 2 weeks from tomorrow, same thing. I've never heard of this. Anyone else ever hear of this or know why? I was assuming maybe they dont want people getting out of control but then DH said people will get drunk regardless. Im not too sure

My wedding has this.. I am unsure of the reasoning - I think it has to do with the presumption that people get out of control doing shots... but why not just get a small glass with no ice and all alcohol.. isnt that pretty much the same thing?

Not really sure why they do it ... all I know is I have heard of it.

i have heard of this as well. i guess it's because they feel people get drunk a bit faster doing shots... ( i know i do at times..lol) where as maybe vodka over ice people tend to drink it a bit slower...
same idea as drinking through a straw to get drunk quicker i guess..lol.
I don't think it makes much of a difference personally.. i mean i barteneded and people get stupid no matter what they drink... but i guess i kind of see where they are coming from a bit...

Yes, I have heard of this at weddings and many times it's not just weddings. Many RH's don't have shot glasses, but have double old fashion glasses and they use those. Even though they have a no shot policy doesn't mean that people can't go up and order a SoCo straight or johnnie or whatever they want. They probably don't mix shots like a kamikaze.

Actually drinking through a straw doesn't get you drunk faster. It's a myth.

I went to a wedding at Timberpoint that did this. They said so they weren't responsible for people getting too drunk and getting sick/driving drunk. I think you could get just as drunk on drinks.

i know.. i was just comparing it to how they see ppl doing shots...
doesn't stop my idiot fiance from trying to drink his beer through a straw to get a quicker buzz..lol

I think it depends on what type of liquor license a hall has. Not all halls are licensed to sell straight liquor.

This happened to us at our wedding and at the wedding we were in last week, the bartender only served us shots in a regular glass when the bride and groom were with us, it's some new law.

Thanks ladies..this was just something neither I nor DH ever heard of. It must be something relatively new cause last year DH were at several weddings in suffolk county (8 in all!) and this policy was not implemented. Eh either way, i was just curious.

Re: Has anyone heard of this policy at a wedding?
my sister in laws wedding had this policy- but the matre D came into the bridal suite and had the bridal party do a shot before entering the reception- but he said the hall has a no shot policy and they will only allow it in this instance- but they know they are only giving all of us one shot.
I don't usually do shots at weddings so I have nnever noticed if this was a policy anywhere else. I know my DH and some of his friends did a shot or two at my wedding, so I guess they didn't have that policy.

I actually thought this was the norm and was surprised when our friends (and also my dads friends) were taking shots at ours!

When I met with my RH last week they told us that they will ONLY allow shots if the BRIDE AND GROOM are doing the shots with the guest. It didn't bother me b/c I don't do shots, but my FH thought it was strange. I believe the guy said something similar to the fact that they are not a bar.
