Has anyone keep the maiden name only professionally?

Has anyone keep the maiden name only professionally?

I've been in my career for almost 10 years and everyone knows me by my maiden name. Is there a way to keep my maiden name for professional purposes but have it changed in my personal life? Would that mean that I don't change my drivers license or social security card? I don't want to hyphen. Please let know any who kept their maiden name professionally but use they marital name for any other purpose. Thanks.

thank you so much for asking this. I am 30 and my last name is my professional name. all my degrees and credentials have my last name. I mentioned to FH I want to hyphen my name and he wasnt thrilled. Im so torn. I just want to have both names at work only and then his name everywhere else.

I plan on doing this. I'm a nurse and it seems like it would be a major hassle to change everything. I also like the idea of still using my name somewhere. If I ever switch hospitalsnmayb I wouldnchange it then.

I would really love to know if this is possible too. I'm also 30, established in my career and don't want to change my name professionally, but I get paid by the govt so I'm assuming if I change my SS card name, I would have to change it professionally? This name change nonsense is really annoying.

One of the women in my office has kept her maiden name professionally. She jokes that she leads a double life because while everyone here knows her by her maiden name, she uses her married name when reserving hotels, cars, flights and restaurants. I think it's just a matter of leaving your maiden name as your work email and on your business cards but you can change your name with the bank and your SS card.

I plan to hyphenate my last name; however, professionally, I will continue to use only my maiden name. I think that the decision to keep a maiden name for professional purposes has a lot to do with your chosen profession. If I were a teacher or a police officer, I wouldn't be concerned about changing my last name. Certain fields, which are referral-based, depend highly upon name recognition.

I think you can just go by Mrs. So and so but keep everything in your maiden name if you want

I think once you officially change it, you kind of need to go by it ESP. With government stuff

And this is why I just didn't change it!

I think legally you have to keep you maiden name the same to keep it professionally. In the instance of taxes and other professional licenses you have to go by your legal name that is attached to your social security card. I just won't change those things but if we are at a party or out with friends they can call me Mrs. So and so.

Me & FH debate about this all the time-he wants me to change my name (does not even like me hyphening it) . I had always thought I would change my name especially since I don't have any contact with my biological father or his family but of course I never thought I would be waiting until 36 to get married. I try to explain to FH I have been in my field of work for over 15yrs & my certifications/degree are under my maiden name but he just doesn't get it. He actually said he would be insulted so I have no idea what I am going to do.

It's really not a big deal for me in my profession to change my name or not but my dad is a higher up and when I call sometimes I hyphante the names just so I get stuff done and don't get BSed at (they are a little slow up there).

If you change your name with SS and other government documents you can still have people call you by your maiden name. I still have my email address at work the same because I didn't want to have to worry about switching a whole new name. Just because your W-2 and SS and license is in your married name, it doesn't matter what people call you. So at work just keep using the maiden name but outside work, you can DEF use your married name.

DH told me no dice if I didn't change my name and was very upset when I thought about keeping my name. I REALLY wanted to have the same last name as my future children so I changed it. But like I said, most people at work still call me by my maiden name or my maiden AND married name.

I'm an actress so I'm definitely not changing my name professionally. I'm in the union with my maiden name, and that cannot be changed. Plus, my first name sounds much better with my maiden name than with FH's name (we both think so!).

I also like the idea of us sharing a last name too, it makes me feel like we're on the same team. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about having a different name than my future children. I might change it personally, I don't know...

FH doesn't care at all if I change it or not. We'll see...

I am keeping my maiden name professionally and everything else will be changed to FH's last name.

I think this is how my co worker did it... You have to have a hyphenated name and then you just never change paperwork at work you keep it as is.

It depends on the company you work for. I work in HR so whenever a woman gets married we go by whatever is on her social security card. If she changes her last name on the card, then she has to be changed in all of the database systems according to her new name. Hope this helps!
